God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him.

I'm not sure i believe in prayer as such, but some thoughts beget a calmness which is good for the soul, so here is some more from michael leunig:
Dear God,
We give thanks for places of simplicity and peace. Let us find such a place within ourselves. We give thanks for places of refuge and More...

4:53 Hello Everyone. Oh Dear, how rusty we become in time. Hope all is well with all with the wherewithal. Shall cast the single halogen on the centreline and venture onto medium.

Warren, I call my Mom every week sometimes every other week. I tried something a few times, I wanted to see if Mom would call me. The first time took 6 weeks for her to call and the next time took 5 weeks. She is always shocked that she has to call me. What’s the deal? I feel guilty if I don’t call More...

all you people who phone your mums so often - what do you talk about? I think i have a line that my life doesn't change enough to support such regular conversation or something!

A photographer for a national magazine was assigned to take pictures of a great forest fire. He was advised that a small plane would be waiting to fly him over the fire.
The photographer arrived at the airstrip just an hour before sundown. Sure enough, a small Cessna airplane was waiting. He More...

Well Loza, perhaps you are right. Maybe my mom didn't call for some weeks means she didn't want to talk!...duhhh

The controller working a busy pattern told the 727 on downwind to make a three-sixty. The pilot of the 727 complained, 'Do you know it costs us two thousand dollars to make a three-sixty in this airplane?' Without missing a beat the controller replied, 'Roger, give me four thousand dollars worth!'

I've no idea carol - she might have felt helluva lonesome if she was used to hearing from you, but I just know that between me and my mum small talk isn't that easy, maybe coz we haven't developed that skill much between us. I tend to let other people guide conversations too much and then she gets on some hobby horse and I feel guilty for wanting her to get off it. It's all so hard eh!!
 |  |
good ones ap!
 |  |
LOZA: sometimes it doesn't matter 'what' you talk about -- it's the keeping in touch that matters. A lifeline, esp. for those moms who live alone, just knowing someone is out there who cares. I'm lucky with my mom in that she has many interests, so can always hook into something: birdwatching, More...

Loza, I think she is very lonesome. I don't know how to please her or help her, never have. I think it's hard on BOTH of us.

I get it Carol. and thanks for yr comments Celia. I get that too. very thought provoking - I think there are undercurrents in how i feel that i will look into here.
 |  |
that sounded more pompous than i meant, but you've given me food for thought celia, so thanks.

My mother and I used to take it in turns to ring each other on a Sunday evening, unless there was something that needed addressing in between. Even when little was happening, we could talk for ages. I guess it was just about keeping in touch with each other's lives. After she died several years More...

WARREN: My mother lived 60 miles away. We used to talk every Sat morning, sometimes in between. I miss her. I live in the same town with my grown children. We see each other pretty often and have a great relationship, but we usually talk on the phone only when we have something to ask each other. They lead very busy lives and I don't want to bother them with chit chat.
 |  |
Judy from Bendigo, I know what you mean. After my Mother died, I had that same feeling on Saturday mornings..like something was missing.
 |  |
steph I think that's how my mum sees me; but with friends or my sister i'm very able to have long chatty conversations. with my mum much less so. she's quite likely to cut short what could become a chatty conversation herself. there's a level of intimacy missing, which is what i could see when I thought about what celia said. hmm.
 |  |
Loza, That's exactly the way it is with one of my DIL's. Just don't have that connection that makes it easy to talk on and on like I do with others. I always have the feeling she'd rather be doing something else, so I'm usually the one to cut it short. Now I see that maybe she thinks the same thing about me.
 |  |
Steph - I know it's late - and I'm tired - but what's a DIL ? (I know I'll probably regret asking cos it will more than likely be SO obvious)
 |  |
Ah, LOZA, it's clearer now. You're right -- it's an 'intimacy' thing. Believe me, I didn't have that with my mom until relatively recently. And looking back, it was a gradual development. And I'm still learning how to do it!!! Don't go to therapy much anymore (maybe a couple of times a year for a More...

Nice smile but bad dentures

COL -- I suspect DIL means daughter-in-law. Am I right, Steph? (I admit my first reaction was, 'what's DIL mean')
 |  |
Col I think DIL is daughter in law - someone said FIL just before and I decided it meant father in law. interesting how these little acronyms pop up unexpectedly! I was going to ask about wb in the chatroom the other night when suddenly i realised it was 'welcome back'! for daughters in law to also be dills could be unfortunate for some however???!!
 |  |
celia I don't take it as preaching. what you say makes a lot of sense and i'll work on it.
people around me are heading twds bed right now and my 'puter is in the alcove, too nearby, so i'd best sign out and shut down, but it's been an interesting conversation. Thanks! hope carol comes back to see it later as she got it going ... all the best carol and thanks for doing that!
maeN all.

maeN all. After 11pm and the first time I've had a chance to log on all day. Did the puzzle, saw the statue, now I'm off to bed. Will have to catch up on all the posts tomorrow.
 |  |
You're welke (welcome) Loza...sleep well. Lots to think about.
 |  |
Did see Hugh's news that Shikia is going home - great. Also saw that Ian is still playing Hard to get. Followed with interest the talk on this page re phone calls between mums and daughters - I do the duty call thing too each week and feel bad if I don't, but have also a few times this year just rung mid-week for no particular reason and have registered absolute delight from mum!
 |  |
Good night all.
 |  |
Yes, DIL is daughter in law. I never would have thought of it, but someone said it yesterday. Oh, the things we learn on this website!
And I agree Carol, lots to think about.
