Viv: Trouble was I forgot to bring my timer to put next to the computer - distracted by various circumstances. I didn't hear it 'Ping' in the kitchen. There appear to be cookies operating to try to prevent me from connecting to the Internet and they are distracting me from my routines.

As you know I sometimes do crosswords at a cafe here with my friend John, who is 72 years of age.
Today he is having ultrasound scans on both sides of his neck, the arteries are blocking again.
He has previously had an operation on one of these arteries in 1998 but is not looking forward to today's outcome as they are blocking up again.
I hope to know later today how he went.

Viv:
I hope John will be OK.
Does he get kind of throbbing sensation from the neck arteries? Can they do angioplasty on those blood vessels?
[Sorry about the questions. Tell me I'm nosy if you don't want to answer]

Viv - Tell John we're thinking about him today. Hope all goes well.
Koala Update - The koala moved from our tree overnight. I hope he's safe and moved towards open bushland - east of my house - and not further into the estate where there's more dogs and less eucalypts.

Rayray - So sorry to hear you're having a bad day. At least it's over now. Let's hope Wednesday is better!

Viv - Best wishes to your friend John. Hope he doesn't need more surgery unless that's the best option for him.

CynB - did you take any pictures of the koala?

Thank you for the kind thoughts Rayray and Debby for my friend John.
This link will explain it all for you Rayray.
He has had it done before on one side of his neck and has numbness left over from that operation.http://www.medhelp.org/adam_pages/show/2955/Carotid-artery-surgery
I do not mind the questions, I have an enquiring mind too. lol

And thank you to the posts since I thanked Debbie and Rayray.

Jane - Re Koala - yes we did take pics but because he was so far up the tree it just looks like a hairy grey blob. When we download them, if I can find one clear enough I will post it. I'm disappointed because my first thought was to get pics for the people on this site and my grandies who will be disappointed to have missed the excitement.

CynB: I know quite a few people who look like hairy grey blobs. Are you sure it wasn't a person up that tree?
20/Aug/08 10:08 AM
 |  |

Rayray - usually people who look like hairy grey blobs are somewhat larger! But good point.
20/Aug/08 10:28 AM

Watch it, CynB, Harry Blob is a friend of mine. True, his hair has gone grey, but that's no reason to chase him up a tree.

Jane...so that is the cause of the problem - the earth's gravitational force!
I can assure you it doesn't work in reverse downunder

Haven't read back through the last couple of days so don't know if anyone else has commented on the baby humpback whale who has lost his mum (? been abandoned) and is swimming around Pittwater (N of Sydney) nuzzling up to the bottom of yachts looking for a feed. I suppose gravitational pull is in exactly the opposite absolute direction under down-under as opposed to on up-over. Bean - what happens to gravitational pull at the Earth's core [Bean has been there you know - in her excavator]
