Jeb - are you looking for company in the corner?

Judy - are you over 7K foot? Yesterday, we had a wet snow down to 4K' - this morning the mountains were tipped in white.

Dave - are you coming back to So. OR or heading south for the winter? Remember how beautiful autumn is here - the colors soon will be with us. Last week the grape harvest started.

EVE, we are at 9000 feet! Gasp! I don't believe that the snow level dropped much below 7500' here, and the snow is fluffy and light. We have to take a drive to see the autumn colors (aspens and oaks), as we are in a conifer belt of pines and firs. When we return to San Diego next week, we'll experience 70's and 80's once again! Life is SO good!

Kathy-MD was the only person yesterday to identify anyone in the last related video on my U-tube (Tom Smothers & Hugh Hefner). So after enjoying MISTY by JOHNNY MATHIS, related videos are on the bottom. The last one is from "Playboy After Dark". Let me know who else you can identify? Need to know stars of the late 60s early 70's (disco era).

Judy - when you leave Mammoth and want to see a beautiful expanse of Aspen - go north on 395 past June Lake, the Tufa Towers at Mono, Bridgeport & Coleville-- turn left to go over MONITOR PASS. You can continue up through Markleyville to Tahoe (a lovely drive). There are other places, like an area east of the Escalante in Utah, or in Colorado.

Judy, I'm sitting on the west side of the Sierra. Cold and rainy here, no snow, but we're at a lower elevation.

Coming up to see our beautiful aspen as Eve suggests would be quite a bit out of your way, but worth a drive. If you aren't brave enough for the Monitor Pass (it is quite scary More...

Taking a quick peek to see what y'all have been up to since this AM!

RayRay: GREAT poem about the Pirate Sheep (and a woman leader, too! Kudos!)

Hi Kids...Just came on line today.
Jane, don't worry about the typos. It is always the fault of the keybored.
And, yes, we got caught in downtown Reno last night when it started to rain. We had about 6 miles to ride our motorcycle to the RV park and hit every red light. It snowed down to 6500 here.

Dave: I love your "keybored"! That says it all.

ANGELS (as explained by children)

I only know the names of two angels. Hark and Harold. Gregory, 5

Linda/Judy: I never found Monitor Pass scary. What was scary was the back road to Yosemite from Lee Vining about 40 years ago (it's been widened now)but and is usually closed through the winter. 88 is just north of Markleyville. From Monitor Pass you can either take 4 South/West or go North to More...

Rayray - if you catch this and wish to use any of this in a poem and need some points for rhyming - there is Kit Carson Creek, Mono Lake, Tufa Towers, Devil's Post Piles, Hetch-Hetchy Reservoir, Yosemite, Topaz Lake, Hope Valley, Sorenson's, Volcano, Obsidian Rock, Basalt, Thermal Spas, & More...

Eve, you are braver than I!! The switchbacks on the Monitor scare me to death. That being said, we haven't taken it for years (more than 25), so memory might not be serving me well. We usually take 88 to 395 when we drive down the back of the Sierra. I live in Amador County, in the upper end off Highway 88, and agree that our wineries are fantastic!

EVE and LINDA, thank you so much for your directions to autumn color! I will copy and save them for future reference! Yes, Eve, Tioga Pass into Yosemite has been widened, but it's still scary!

Hey Linda, I'll come over the hill and pick you up on my motorcycle and take you over 88 and Monitor. That will cure you of your fear of those curves.

Yeah, Dave -- a motorcycle ride over the Monitor Pass is just what I need to cure my fears... It is shivering my timbers to think of riding a motorcycle in this weather.

I got some photos from my recent trip posted. I hope you'll come take a look.

If anyone tries to write a really good comic verse (which I think the one tomorrow might be), they up against a handicap of acceptability; because among poetry fans there is a prejudice that dictates that comic verse is, per se, in some way inferior to more serious poems. So in trying More...

MONITOR PASS

Turning off 395,
We began the drive
Up the hill with valley views,
Topaz Lake and the distant Wassuk.
As we neared the top,
We were awestruck.
There before us – shimmering gold,
As far as our eyes could behold.
Aspen in all their autumnal glory
Left More...
