Hugh, the Gordon Lightfoot song 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' is a historical ballad. The Fitgerald sunk during a 'Gale of November' on Lake Superior the night of November 10, 1975, with loss of all on board. Lightfoot's addition of things like 'Fellows, its been good to know yas' add to the More...

In My Stool

In my stool by sullen bar
The pusser denies me rum
Exercised in the still night
When only the moon rages
And the lovers lie abed
While Chippendales surround them.
I labour by singing light
Not for ambition or bread
But for the rum the pusser denies More...

Good afternoon to all! That's what I call a green-eyed lady!

I see a lot of chatter about Gordon Lightfoot. At he age of 15, myself and my two buddies had a folk groiup are we performed at the Algoma Folk Festival in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in 1964. Another little known performer on stage at the festival was Gordon Lightfoot. We were lucky in that he asked More...

GannieMo, I just went to be highly entertained by your Penn and Teller juggling videos. They are awesome. Chris Bliss wins for artistry, but Jason Garfield gets the nod for sheer talent. I believe they should perform the dueling balls together.

Alene, I know it's 2 days later but I have remembered my personal favourite term...'upchuck'.
Have seen Oz twice on the Swiss news in 2 weeks, for Steve Irwin Memorial & sydney bushfires, both sad & makes me homesick.

The seas were rough from the storm, but nothing she hadn't seen before. Then, out of nowhere, a wave estimated at over 70 feet, came crashing down on the Fitsgerald sinking her in seconds. Her sister ship, two miles ahead, never felt the brunt of what is commonly referred to as a 'tidal wave'. But More...

An oldie, but a goodie...

One day, in the checkout line at Wal-Mart, Joe said to his friend Mike, who was behind him, 'My elbow hurts like hell. I guess I better see a doctor.'

Mike replied, 'Listen, you don't have to spend that kind of money. There's a diagnostic computer here at More...

Another story re: that folk festival in 1964. Lightfoot also did 'Ghost Riders in the Sky.' If you know the song, their is a shrill whistle followed by 'Hah' throughout. The person who whistled for Lightfoot did it so shrilly that he blew the needles on the sound monitoring system, so the remaiming More...

Hey y'all. Been forever since I have had time to come on and Sudoku...funny how being sick slows you down a little.

Imagine my surprise when there was all this chatter about Gordon Lightfoot! I have no memories like you, Canuk Greg, but my mom listened to him a lot (GL I mean) when I was More...

For LISA: Where are you in Northern Ontario? Pinpoint yourself as its a big area we're tlaking about here.
 |  |
CANUK GREG - Sundridge is the name of the closest big town. It is south of North Bay.

It seems to me that many of the regulars here are older than I am and hopefully more familiar with this than me. I am looking for names of tunes that you used to do the twist to...other than the obvious Chubby Checkers tune!

Lisa: Age is onlt in the mind. We are all still young at heart. Great Twist dance songs: Joey Dee and the Starliters doing the Peppermint Twist and Bill Haley and the Comets doing their versions of the Spanish Twist and the Florida Twist come to mind. Maybe Ed in Florida can give you more, as he seems to be the site music expert. Additional words Ed?

C GREG a folk rock star! How cool is that? Whoda thunk it? What other secrets are you hiding from us, Greg?
 |  |
Judy: You should have seen me when San Francisco caught up to me. Long hair, full beard, a true hippe wannabe. I had converted my stand-up bass to an electric base and played in a rock band. Ah youth! What a riot. It was fun!
 |  |
Good grief, GREG! You seem so ... uh ... normal ... now! Pul-lease tell us more about your youth and your music??!!
 |  |
Thanks Greg...hopefully Ed will have some input too then! Hey, if age is a number, how come you are not a folker still? :o)

I have to remember that age is just a number, especially as this past week forced me to participate in yet another birthday pushing me closer to forty and further from thirty!

Baz, is that your Chopper on 'Easy' jigsaw?

Not the place to pontificate about my youth Judy. I prefer to focous now on my daughter's attempt to make it big. She is a singer/actor, especially adept in musical theatre (her uni. degree was in thearte) and now hoping to start her own production company in Toronto. And she is doing it on her More...

Still am (and always will be) a folker Lisa. I have folk music by true artists that most people probably never heard of, like Canadians Alan Mills, Edith Folke, the US great Chad Mitchell Trio, and numerous others. Folk will always rock!
 |  |
Best wishes to your daughter, GREG. At least we know where she got her musical and dramatic genes! Let us know what happens with her, OK?
