It will be lovely having Vici visit us 'down under' and I am organising a lunch on Saturday 7 November for those who want to meet Vici (and Bean) while they are in Sydney.

HI all! Loved the dino/prehistoric jokes - funny how a simple substitution of race/creed etc turns a joke that will offend into one that makes everyone giggle.

Here's today's one; I wonder how many of you have some of this in a cupboard at home? Answers to the exploding inbox please!

Yet gentle enough to eat.

PARTY IN VERMONT

Sam has been in the computer business for 25 years and is finally sick of the stress. He quits his job and buys 50 acres of land in Vermont as far away from humanity as possible.

Sam sees the postman once a week and gets groceries once a month. Otherwise it's total More...

I can add another one CG - law of the bad hair days - your hair will look an absolute mess until you make that appointment to get it cut - suddenly it looks just fine.

Interesting to hear that the 'special relationship' between the US and the UK is in trouble - our papers have been full of tittle tattle that Gordon Brown, the UK Prime Minister is being kept out of all the important talks with Obama, concerning Iran, Afghanistan, etc etc. I would be interested to More...

Fiona,

“Signaling” is a huge part of political and diplomatic strategy, especially when relations are ice-cold, as ours are with much of the Muslim world. An important disagreement during our last election was, very simply, whether or not we ought to even “talk” to Iran. Well, of course, we More...

Gee, and I thought the "special relationship" was reserved for Australia! Could it be that Obama is distancing himself from the strong allies against Iraq so that he can talk more with the Muslim world? Aren't we all cynics? Why can't our leaders just talk!

I keep reading and hearing that the US and UK are calling the rumor of a snub absurd.
I agree that the media is, once again, trying to "make news". My understanding is they have a good relationship.

everybody.
Shiela, you will be amazed at the sights & sounds of Octoberfest! Rob & I just happened to be in Munich in September of 1976 & were happy to discover we would be able to take part in it that year. We didn't know then that Octoberfest starts in September! Hope you have a great time on your trip in Munich & everywhere else you go, too.

And even during the Reagan-Thatcher lovefest, there was considerable acrimony over monetary policy.

Reagan's initiatives strengthened the dollar to the point where, in 1984, it was nearly parity. (Going to England was cheaper than staying home. I loved it.) I think the closest was More...

The law of Physical Surfaces raises one of the most confounding questions that has ever plagued mankind.

How doest the bread know?

The answer to that can also be used to understand what goes on in the world of diplomacy and the relationship between women and their chocolate.

Jeb, I thought that the law of Physical Surfaces was gender-based:

It is impossible for any woman to tolerate a clean, flat surface with nothing on it.

25/Sep/09 9:17 AM
 |  |
You think that is impossible? Watch a woman try to tolerated a dirty/dusty flat surface with or without object upon it and you will see the world of bachelorhood shine just a little brighter.

Most of my flat surfaces here are dusty from the storm on Wednesday and they'll stay that way a little longer with more dust storms due.
I do have to admit to wanting to clean them every time I look at them and having to stop myself - so you're right, women can't tolerate a dusty surface. I admit it and I'm proud of it!

CynB what's the point of cleaning when they say we are going to have another dust storm tomorrow afternoon.
My floors are so dusty that the footmarks show up beautifully on the wood. Everytime we go outside we track more dust inside.

Thanks for the chuckles this morning!
Canuk Greg's Laws - SO true! I particularly relate to the jelly (jam) sandwich, and, for Australians, let me just add that vegemite can be substituted with no loss of destructive force!

CynB....Don't you dare...

It was jeb who brought up dust (in the conversation, anyway). I was simply talking about clean, flat surfaces with nothing on them. No little figurines, no scrawny flowerpots, no magazines...just a clean, flat surface, absolutely intolerable to women.

#2 son went push bike riding last night, slipped and the pedal ripped open the back of his knee. He has been to the doctor but they won't stitch it because of the risk of infection. Antibiotics and keeping his leg as straight as possible was the treatment.

Ian, You made me think and I don't know if I have any unblemished surfaces. Coffee tables hold family pictures or at least the tv guide and remote controls (5 at last count or 6 if I include the stereo).

Ian - I take it you are minimalist as far as interior design goes.
And yes, my flat surfaces, whether clean or dusty do have ornaments, magazines etc on them - that's the way I like it.

Actually my pet hate is artificial flowers. My mother has them on every surface - side tables, coffee tables, tops of cupboards and on the kitchen bench. She even has an artificial plant in a macrame hanger!
If I had my way, I'd toss the lot in the bin.

I am at work today. We are testing the quality of some of our pens. The plastic mould used is getting old and some of the pens are drying up. We have to physically test every pen and rebox the good ones. We need about 10,000 pens in the next month for our busy back to school time and our next shipment won't arrive until mid-late November. Ho Hum!

A history lesson -
They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot & then once a day it was taken & sold to the annery.........if you had to do this to survive you were “Pi$$ Poor”. But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn’t even afford to More...

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip an and fall off the roof. Hence More...
