Rayray: To continue yesterday's conversation, if scrumped apples are nicked apples, where does the word "scrumptious" come from? Does this have something to do with "forbidden fruit"? - in which case we are right back to the Garden of Eden again! It's amazing how these conversations tend to go about in circles!

Sorry Noemi B, about Chen! We don't have a dog, but share premises with an 18 month old bundle of destruction on 4 legs called Sam, who belongs to our daughter!!

Weekend wise, so far so good! Have a good one all!!

everyone...going to be hot here today in So. Oregon...
We are off to an air show at our Radio Control Flying club.
Have a great day, what ever part of it you have left.

Naomi...sorry for the loss of your beloved CHEN.

Noemi - Chen looks like she was a mix of Shepherd and Collie, a beautiful dog. Our pets are a part of us, and who we are. A loss of a pet is a loss of a part oneself. While you miss Chen deeply, you will always have the memories to treasure.

Hi Dave -

Sorry I brought this hot weather home with me. When I was in LA it was between 102-106 the entire time I was down there. I knew what the temp here was and wished I was home. Now I am and the heat tagged along with me. -- Sorry!

2:53 Hi to all.

Thought for the Day:

Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone.

Gail - Yesterday's photo got a lot of discussion going - and deep thoughts. Someone said it was a Pink Floyd cover. Na Na Na Na. Also thanks for the research on Mazey Doats. Do you recall a song from the same era about being a flower in a cabbage patch?

André - Now if only there was a way to turn off the guiltometer when things don't get done.

HUGH, you asked about the breathing, squirming denizens of my fridge ... nightcrawlers are worms on 'roids ... long, plump, and juicy ... and irresistible to big trout. What's a "yabby"?

André ~ I'm very artful then ,I can get so much undone its unbelievable!

Eve - I don't remember anything about a flower in a cabbage patch, but I do remember a song called "I'm a little petunia in an onion patch".

Good Morning World! Jane, thanks..I kept thinking there was something familiar about the words Eve was using and then you supplied the title that was in my mind.

Noemi, I'm happy that you posted the beautiful pictures of Chen. Hold on to those good memories. The power point project must be wonderful....hang in there. Peace.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Eve - here are the lyrics to "I'm a Lonely Little Petunia in an Onion Patch" (if that's the song you were thinking of):

LONELY LITTLE PETUNIA IN AN ONION PATCH
Of all the saddest words
That I have ever heard
The saddest is the story
Told me by a bird
He had spent More...

Jane/Mama -
This was a vague memory of a song my sister sang about 60 years ago. A petunia is a flower & onions are about as good as cabbage (don't care for either). She died at 3 and it was one of memories I had of her singing. The other song she always sang was Jesus Loves Me. It was so true that she was weak and He is strong.
26/Aug/07 2:20 AM

Jane - Thanks for the lyrics. I cried as I read them.

I don't think I've ever heard of this song. It's such a sad little song that I can't imagine it as a childhood song. But maybe the only songs we teach in school are the happy ones and that's why I can think of only happy children's songs.

Had to walk out onto the deck & what was out there was a doe with her 2 fawns. Gave them some left over popcorn from Britt (worked the popcorn machine last night - Martha Graham Dance Company).

Your follow-up question of the origin of the word ‘scrumptious’ is interesting.
In the first place, technical acceptance of the dialectic verb ‘SCRUMP’ (meaning to steal [apples] from an orchard), infers that both ‘SCRUMPING’ and ‘SCRUMPED’ are valid (the latter More...

WEST SUMATRAN SCRUMPING: (Traditional folk story)
A rich Haji lived in an otherwise poor Minankerbau village in West Sumatra, Indonesia. He was a man of status, as was symbolised by his small orchard of high-quality rambutan trees. A low wall marked the boundary between the orchard More...

There was a young couple who lived in a town filled with crime. After three of their neighbors' houses had been robbed, the couple decided to get a guard dog.

So the young wife went to the pet store and said, "I need a good guard dog." The clerk replied, "Sorry, we're all More...

A young boy, about eight years old, was at the corner "Mom & Pop" grocery picking out a pretty good size box of laundry detergent.
The grocer walked over, and, trying to be friendly, asked the boy if he had a lot of laundry to do.

"Oh, no laundry," the boy said, More...

To count; nowhere a single sheep in sight!
So, during the small hours of last night –
I sounded my loud, lost-sheep alarm.
My mood was anxious; far from calm.
At first I thought the savage, blooded fox -
was gnawing on a pair of woollen socks.
But the fox had eaten; More...

All I could remember is "I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch and I cry and cry all day". Mom used to sing it when she was chopping onions...so I connect it to cooking...not sadness!! Still remember the tune though this was a VERY long time ago.

Gator: When I was growing up our dog, Sandy, always got an ice cream cone when the family stopped for a treat (and kudos to your husband! Way to go Hud!)
