Speaking of cow hides (oh well, I was) my former boss had a few in his office as mats. A co-worker and I (we hated them) were filing one day while he was away, so we filed them in an archive box, marked it Dead Cow and put it in the archive room. He never found them, but I'll bet by now someone has and is still wondering who put them there and why.
