Good afternoon to all! Quite the photo today. The tires seem out of place given the building structures.

An old, tired-looking dog wandered into the yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home. He followed me into the house, down the hall, and fell asleep on the couch. An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next day he was back, resumed his position on More...

Heidi - Hope you feel better soon! I think you need to add another animal to your menagerie: a service dog (or other critter) to take care of you when you're under the weather.

I enjoyed reading RayRay thoughts on friendship on the first page - I think we do have different levels of friendships and different friends for different times in our life -- the true deep friendship survice our "changes of season" and hang around no matter what.

I'm cleaning my son's room -- young teenager -- found some interesting items -- I'm sure any mother of teenagers on the site has found simlar items...... oh, this too shall pass. So, I bring the item (bra) down to show my husband -- I start off with... holding it up and stating.. this is not my More...

I haven't been posting much the last month. Guess I was too busy! Jaz came from Oz and we went on a trip up to DC and had an awesome time. We visited tons of sites on the National Mall and then made our way back to Jupiter via Myrtle Beach, Orlando, and Clearwater. We both took lots of photos and I More...

Seeing the picture Anne posted on one of the Kid's puzzles today prompted me to think of this song, so here it is if you feel like listening.... The Irish Rovers singing "The Unicorn Song." Enjoy!

Cathy know what you mean - I have never before heard thunder start at 3:ooam and last 'till almost noon non stop, with rain thrown in for good measure... I'm sure All of us all over the world are experiencing strange unfamiliar weather like never before - but... today we celebrate a beautiful sunny day, think I'll go for a walk on the beach and enjoy... toodles...

Received an endearing email this morning.

A story about a rather foolish Mallard, that is lucky to have friends.

The story is in pictures, so I have loaded the photos and comments that go with the photos in my gallery.

I hope it brings as big a to you as it did to me. Cheers to all.

Greg, I should never have visited your YouTube that song will now go round and round all evening and if I can't sleep I'll know who to blame!!!!!

Eve, what a lovely story. I hope they all survive.

BTW - there are 11 photos in the story.

Jeb: Regarding the duck with the doo. I found out that someone in Oregon has bred Mallards with Peking Ducks. They look like Mallards & have a plumb. Figure that is what the pics previously posted are of. (I know poor sentence structure)

I'm going to stick my nose into your comment to jeb, Eve. Pekin ducks are descended from Mallards. They are frequently crossed. I think that the ducks you described are called Rouens, a popular meat duck.

Heidi - 2 pictures of the duck with a "doo" are on my page in my gallery. I couldn't find them in any of my bird books.
30/Jul/08 5:06 AM
 |  |

Definitely not a rouen duck they are just very big mallards and do not have a doo on their heads
30/Jul/08 5:24 AM

Yes, Eve...we just had an earthquake. Thanks for the info on it. All is fine around here..although we felt it. Shosho, did you feel it?

Hope there isn't more to come!

Eve I think your doo duck is a crested Bali duck they have a golf bal sized crest on the back of their head. They come in different colours but if you go to the following link you will find a photo of a white one.

Yyyyyeeeessss? A bit shaken! Not that much, I was standing, didn't feel it through my feet but I heard the walls creaking and groaning.

Eve, at my local school district science center located about a mile from my school, there are two ducks looking like yours. They're cross breeds between Mallards and Peking. Unfortunately the Peking duck is smaller than the Mallard and one of the duck's Peking skull is too small for it's Mallard brain, it was pinched and the poor duck leans to the left when it walks.

The other duck is still young and doesn't have a problem yet. But it's interesting to see them with their top knot! Jan the animal manager there, has a soft heart for hard luck cases and the center has an assortment of interesting animals. Like the duck who grew up with geese and thinks he's a More...

Now I must put these booklets, I made copies of a book from my hubby's family dating back to the 1800's. Someone in the 30's and 40's gathered info and pictures of the first ancestor to come to America prior to WWI and made booklets for the family members. My hubby has the one his great grandfather was given.
