I agree, Thyra. I enjoy the days after Christmas almost as much as the event itself.

again. The days roll by quickly, don't they? Thyra, I agree with you, too. I like to keep on enjoying the holidays all the way through the 12 Days of Christmas. When we lived in Puerto Rico from 1983-1986 we learned how there they traditionally celebrate Three Kings Day on Jan. 6 More...

Thyra, here in France it goes on and on - from Twelfth Night (but often starting before), we have the right to eat the Kings' Cake - a cake where a small charm is hidden. It's traditionally shared with your friends, your neighbours, your work colleagues as a way of welcoming in the New Year, and More...

Answers to the Jan. 6 puzzle: ( 4 letter or more words made from MONKEY):
keno, money, monk, omen, yoke

Judy, however, in her never-ending search for knowledge found four more words than those listed on my calendar! I will leave it to her to announce those later. Did anyone else find others?

Whew, I'm out of the puzzle business for the next 10 days. I can leave those to Fiona & Kathy MD for awhile since my calendar has only trivia, quotes, jokes, & helpful hints for the next week or so.

When my Mom died on January 26, 1993 and I went back to Wisconsin for the funeral the reception was held at a country club and all the Christmas decorations including the tree were still up. I also remember as a kid our tree stayed up most if not all of January. It was an old farm house and More...

Aw, Kathy ... Using my own cranial resources, I also found "nome," a district in ancient Egypt, which for some odd reason I remembered from a history class! Just for fun, I went to an anagram site, which also produced Fiona (oops, I mean "moke"!), meno, and mony. Look 'em up, if you care to!

Mony is Scottish. Of course.

I was more then curious about marram, and found that it is Scandinavian in origin and the same problems Fiona talked about in Scotland occurred in Denmark as well. Interestingly, here in this part of Canada we call that Champlain beachgrass after the 1600's explorer Samuel de Champlain who More...

Yo, Greg! Ye thinks Judy's words are better? I guess we have to give her some credit since she's dealing with that dementia thing.....

Live and learn. This is so excellent, learning a new word ("marram") that I can apply. I only knew the grass that grows along the beach of Lake Michigan as "beach grass." I looked it up and got this from Wikipedia:

A. breviligulata - American Marram Grass or American Beachgrass. Native to coasts of eastern North America, including the shores of the Great Lakes.

Well Kathy, yonk was a good find, but it is British slang and it has mulitple meaning, a few of which I wouldn't post on this site.

When I first signed up I used “WA” but had to change it to Washington because it evidently also means West Australia. Now I can’t log in unless I go to my e-mail, click on that link which then welcomes me as a new member every time. How can I fix this?? Thyra

Oh, my! I just looked it up!
Dear me. I just remember someone saying they "hadn't seen her in yonks". Perfectly innocent.
We'll just ignore the other meanings!

Thyra, I've stymied myself a few times, too, by changing names or locations. Based on my experience I think you can probably log in if you type the words exactly as they are appearing on screen, including capital letters and spaces. In your case it would be:

Thyra

Washington State

Try it.

Hello everyone, hmm loopy on a health kick eating his parsley. Greg, Ian and Anne are off travelling in their motorhome they left just after Christmas. Fiona I didn't think "solos" was a proper word and couldn't think of anything else to use, the grass thing got me as well.
