Arriving back in New Delhi from a business trip, Mr. Sharma comes home and his wife throws her arms around his neck: "I have great news: I'm a month overdue. I think we're going to have a baby! The doctor gave me a test today, but until we find out for sure, we can't More...

Marylinn? Her birthday is in July. The same thing happened last year. I guess she has never asked Gath to correct it.

André, may your kettle rest in peace. No doubt you over-worked it, and it stewed and steamed and decided that enough was enough.

André - I tried the boil-it-in-the-pan-and-try-to-make-proper-tea - and gave up and found a kettle, but very few frogs have one. It became a standard house-warming present from me. As I tried to explain to someone, it's great for heating up water before you cook pasta - he looked at me with More...

Special note for cricket fans:

The first testicular guard was used in cricket in 1874.
The first helmet was used in 1974.

It took 100 years for cricket players to realize that the brain is also important!

my 9x9 score on today's www.kenken.com is my best ever (17 min. 36 sec.) but it's also one of the easiest 9x9s I've ever done - just in case anyone wants to try out an easy one

all - Freezing this morning, however it may get over 70° - 20° higher than yesterday. 30° higher than Sunday. This should bring on the fall colour.

Hello Eve! Our high temp today hasn't even reached 45°F! There are snow showers in our extended forecast! It started raining last night about midnight and hasn't stopped since (it's about 2:30 in the afternoon).

Mum sent little boy to the butchers and told the boy to ask for some neck of lamb and ask the butcher to cut it as close to the tail as possible.

I think I am a walking diasaster right now Anne, not only has my kettle gone to Heaven but now my central Heating inc. hot water has died this evening...hugh sigh...

As an aside, I'm not good with blenders, I have spread many a good soup by my inability to put the lid on properly whilst mixing, my toaster, mobile phone and other items such as my hair have received a liberal dose of ham, potato and leek soup on more than one occasion. Tomato soup is particularly More...

Anne, I've had two major cooking disasters.
Once I made a big pot of beef stroganoff and as I took it out of the oven to serve it, I dropped it and broke the dish. I think we had fish and chips for dinner.
Another night, I had made spaghetti and meatballs (a rarity for me) and had it all on More...

Not my disaster but a friends.
We were invited together with another couple for dinner. We all enjoyed aperetifs, sat down and she placed on the table a wonderful looking Salmon en croute. (Pastry covered salmon) She sliced and served. It was then we all realised she had used sweet pastry by mistake. I do not advise trying this.

Well, this isn't really a disaster, but sort of. For the longest time, I couldn't find my car key and remote entry. I looked and I looked. Finally, I just used the backup key. Then one day, I decided to make toast (yes, really). I hadn't had toast in quite some time, maybe once in just a few More...

Anne - I love that story about the car keys.

Not my disaster but Marie Callender's (a restaurant/bakery) My brother always brought pies to my Thanksgiving dinners. One year someone had put salt instead of sugar into the whipped cream. Needless to say the pie was rejected by everyone! The restaurant graciously gave us an exchange!

Hubby has a penchant for kippers of the tinned variety. Early in our marriage I put a tin in a saucepan and covered it with water to heat it and was then persuaded to return to the bedroom, forgetting all about the kippers. Saucepan boiled dry, tin exploded covering the kitchen in a fine veneer More...

I have had the exploding tin thing happen to me - a tin of condensed milk I was boiling in water to make caramel filling for something. We found globs of it down behind the wall units which were across the other side of the next room to the open kitchen when we moved out a couple of years later. But at least it wasn't the kippers smell!!!

Using and old fashioned pressure cooker, where the weights were separate, my mother was making rice pudding. She put the weights on but forgot to turn the cooker ring down. She went out of the kitchen, returned about 15 minutes later to find that the pressure had blown the weights off and the rice More...

Not really a cooking disaster per se but it did happen in the kitchen. Many, many moons ago, late at night, I realised I had run out of cat food. My bright idea was to fry up some fish fingers I had in the freezer and give them those. Put the oil on the stove...and promptly went to bed! Hubby woke More...

My other memorable "disaster" was the first roast dinner I cooked for Mr P and me shortly after we married. The meat was not ready when the vegetables were, or vice versa. I could cook anything from a recipe in a book, but the basics of getting everything on the table at the same time was a concept that took quite a while to develop!

Going back to watching the "Hey, Hey, it's Saturday" reunion. Loving it, lots of good memories!

An Israeli soldier who just enlisted asked the Commanding Officer for a 3-day pass.
