Heidi Ho: Please be careful when your play around with your 'critters'. When I was 7y old I was gored by an aggressive Heiffer and got covered in bruises. They can be very nasty.

CG: Today English is the International Language for International Pilots and Air Contollers speak English. If Air Controllers only spoke a language or dialect of the region they lived, how would you like to fly with a pilot that only knew Hebrew, Norwegian, French OR English. A common language is More...

I learned English (my father was a good ole American) and Japanese (my mother was a Japanese citizen) from birth. Then when I came to America my first friend was from the south, so it was hysterical seeing this little Japanese girl speaking with a southern drawl in Seattle, Washington. I was some More...

GMO - You are so right about words meaning different things in different areas and differences in spelling (honor/honour).

One of my girl friends was accompanying a man from England here on business. She went with him to a business dinner. Near the end of the evening he said "I'll More...

Eve, I don't think I disputed the fact that English is currently entrenched as a "universal" language. What I said is societies are changing, and people living in those societies need to adjust to the change and accept others languages. English may not last long as the More...

Regarding the language issue, I agree with ALL of you - up to a point. I agree with Eve that everyone who comes to this country to live and earn a living should be expected to learn English. Even our little community has a free program for Spanish-speaking residents to learn English. However, we More...

Off to the showers. Just got back from my 10-mile bike ride, and besides being sweaty, my legs were also licked by a boxer (dog, that is) at a bike shop that I visited.

"I feel sweaty
Oh, so sweaty
I feel sweaty and wetty all day..."

(to the tune of "I feel pretty". Anyone want to add to the song???)

I have to share
I have just received an email from someone else doing geneology and it turns out our great grandfathers were brothers. This is a branch of the family I have traced but have never met, or knew the descendants . We are going to exchange trees and 'chat' this weekend.

I'm pretty sure that it is a toad,( Every time I say definately someone always proves me wrong)
Toads sit upright, where frogs hunker down. Toads are fair game where I live, the Powers That Be are even talking about a bounty on them again!

Grasshopper: Something I wondering about only yesterday was the origin of the word 'toadstool'. In children's book illustrations a toad is often pictured sitting on a toadstool as its 'stool' or 'seat', but I wonder about the other meaning of the word 'stool'. Do/did some people regard toadstools as the faeces of toads I wonder?

When I was in Oz I used to have a pet tree frog in my room. It used to ride on the carriage of my typewriter. It used to really enjoy watching me typing and was also excited by the hurdy-gurdy ride.

I've got a couple of tree frog stories that are now legend in our family.

Second story involved No1 daughter at the tender age of 2 and a half, who was already toilet trained. We stopped in a country town for a toilet break - at the local football ground, the only public loos in town. Miss 2 went in by herself, while I changed napy on daughter No 2. She finished, tidied More...

In Indonesia there used to be a toad living in the loo. Everyone did their business on it. It didn't appear to mind at all. Funny creature!

Not much left of the morning here !
Well so much for that idea. I printed off the easy and medium, and stuffed them both up.
Will try again, then maybe I can see the toad.
Cold start here again but a beautiful sunny day now.
