Mo, I doff my lid to someone as well versed as you! Lovely to know someone has the great taste to spend so much time in the best country in the world, and has obviously availed themselves of some of its great delights.
I remain chastened for my presumption!

Mariane if it wasn't for your governments restrictions on white haired grandparents of anglo saxon heritage we would, by choice, be living in Oz

Kathy a few years ago (well I guess it would be about 20 - my how time flies!) we had some US friends come and stay. They brought us a very expensive Californian wine as a gift and we were appalled by its quality - it was very thin and quite acidic. After drinking some of our local More...

again, Judy! My French isn't very good, but I could read your Spanish just fine! You three can keep battling on, but I must go vacuum now. I've been putting it off all day. Tennis at 6:30. Bye for awhile.

Were you referring to me, or yourself?

My husband has a theory that they won't let us in permanently because that would mean a very large dint in the export figures of the grape juice. Think of all those lost taxes should we be drinking 'at home' so to speak!

Mariane - maybe some other American wine drinkers can give their opinions? I'll have to save my comments for tomorrow.

My son has built a house in WA and is there at the moment, on holiday with his family. If only he could move there from Singapore, become a resident, et voila, grey haired old granny might be let in.

May it be so, Mo.
Now, there might be a few of us here that would be interested in purchasing your lovely current abode, though ... (After you finish the renovations!)

We'll keep our fingers crossed! Have never been to WA, but have it high on the list when i become an empty nester! I believe it is absolutely gorgeous, as Anne's photos always show.

But we will return and all being well if we can get a winter house let/ dog/cat sitter tennant here next October we would like to spend another 6 months in Australia. Retracing some steps but experiencing a few things we have missed. Not the Ayers Rock tourist thing, but taking some small train More...

Mo, stay where you are - the thought of the bat being only two hours up the road is enough for me to go back to my castle in Scotland.

I'm embarrassed, Mo! You've seen more of my country than I have! Put the South Coast of NSW on your list - God's own country.

Mo, what on earth posessed you to go to Rockhampton. I spent many holidays there visiting my Grandfather but couldn't find any reason why I would go there on holidays.

Mariane, Anne is the best tour guide we have ever had. Only having met here on this site she welcomed us into her home and spent time showing us the area of which she is rightly so proud. Especially as she was born a 'pom'!. We had been to the area previously but she showed us a side of the area More...

I shall tell the truth and shame the devil, as my mother would have said. Vicki we were killing time before our expected arrival in Bundy and thought we'd go north just to see it but we got tired of driving unchanging roads and scenery, found a appart/hotel in Rockhampton - stayed 2 nights saw all More...

I asked my hubby what his lasting memory is and we both have the same on. We were staying in an hotel in Coolangatta having dined with friends in Tweed Heads. Got home about 02.00( I'm sure you have all been there) at 03.15 the hotel fire alarm goes off. We are on 6th floor. Down the stairs. All More...

Sailing into Sydney on the Tassie Ferry on a beautiful day. First sight of the Three Sisters through the mist. The 12/11/10/9/8 Apostles;First sighting of the Tuart Trees in WA, Oh dear I feel an "I want to move to Australia" moment coming on

I read a book a few years ago - "I think it as called something like "No Place for a Lady". It mentioned how terrifying many of the native bird calls in Australia can be. It puts a flock of galahs or cockatoos flying overhead ands screeching in a whole new light. Really must have scared someof the early settlers out of their corsets.

Good morning all.
Vicki - I do so agree about Rockhampton - awful place.
Fiona - the Tropic of Capricorn passing through it is all it's got.
Mo - having also been the recipient of Albany Anne's hospitality, I can vouch for her qualities as a tour guide. We really only had a full day More...

The Capricorn coast near Rocky is quite nice until the tide goes out (and out and out). There's nothing like a kilometre or two of mud flats. We used to stay at Emu Park - great surf after the cyclone goes through. One aunt lived at Cooee Bay for a while. Yes, they do hold the Cooee championships there - now that is a tourism drawcard if ever there was one!
