Sorry about the confusion HH, ramen is such a college kid staple (when all you spend money on is beer) that I use it more as 'we have no money/time/food in the cupboard' statement --usually don't actually eat it anymore unless on a hiking trip.

do think christmas giving is a little out of hand. I am part of it as well but it just seems to grow and grow.
with all that has happened in Sydney in past week some goodwill towards all would go along way to peace at Christmas for his birthday.

Best thing about uni is that once you're in & you pass well in 1st year you can often transfer to course of choice. A lot of students straight from school change academic streams as they really have no idea what they want to do & because of this also only put in a 1/2 hearted effort. Knowing what More...

Amber - it's effect. Effect is a noun, affect is a verb - except in psychology, where people sommetimes refer to 'affect' eg you might talk about someone's emotional affect. boom boom, lesson ends! (didn't mean to sound like QRP - 'cos I'm really *not* her!)

I too wish Andre well as I said yesterday miss her joke and TFTD. also some of the other regulars missing, maybe just busy.
such a busy time of the year it is really difficult keeping up with all the posts to know what is going on. usually just on for quick visits to do puzzles.

Thanks rosemary! Everything up here is white this time of year, so it's interesting to see grass in winter.
