Lambie Pie is VERY happy to have mama back. She never goes far from her any more, she doesn't want to lose mama again. In case you're interested, Lambie Pie is white with a silver dollar sized red spot in the middle of her back.

I think USA food prices are just about one half of UK prices. And petrol - well the skies the limit - in UK more than UKP1-30 per litre

Rayray - Out of curiosity, what do you pay for rack of lamb in the UK? At a regular grocery store we pay about $15 a lb. (7.51 British pounds), and at a discount store (Costo), it's about $10 a lb. (5 British pounds)

Just as interesting a comparison as current and past prices is to compare current and past salaries. When I first started to work, minimum wage was $1.25 an hour. You could work full time and make a whopping $10.00 a day.

Dear Friends, We had a special event this morning! My 7 YO grandson caught a 9" perch off the end of the dock using a bobber and a worm which he cast out 20 yds out into the little cove that we are staying on. He brought it in; grandpa scaled and filleted it and I sauteed it and we each More...

Jane:
Lamb varies in price in UK. One needs to shop around. The NZ lamb tends to be the cheapest but it is frozen. I need to think about the price. In the supers it is horrendously expensive but it is cheaper in the locals. I can't remember how much just now.

I have been thinking about the price of lamb, and I think UK prices are about the same as yours.

Pork is the cheapest meat here (and chicken).
Beef is pricey but not as much as lamb/mutton.
Locally I can buy halal lamb (for Moslem guests) at about 5 pound/lb - of variable quality. That price is based 'on the bone'.

Oh Keith! It's harder to go down hill. You strain not to start a run! Once you start a run it's very difficult to slow down. And if you drop, well try to stop when you're tumbling head over heel! Been there, done that!!! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!

A lawyer and an engineer were fishing in the Caribbean.

Rayray, just googled halal food, kind of like the Jewish kosher food. Why not both worship the same God and have quite a few of the same prophets as does the Christians. But of the three Christianity doesn't have the same dietary demands as does the other two.

When I started as a new teacher for a private school my pay was about $500 a month. Then a year and a half later went to teach for LAUSD which doubled my pay! Thought I was rich! I could have bought the student lunch for less than a dollar but chose to bring my own instead.

I had a summer job in 1957 (between my sophomore and junior years of high school) that paid $1.50 a hour! Of course, I had to take a commuter train into Chicago every day (about 50-60 miles each way) and had to buy "grown-up" office attire, so that cut into my take-home pay. But I thought I was going to get rich!

Jane, that was a good wage for a part time job in 57, at least here in the South. My $1 a hour was for full time work in 1960, and the minimum wage for all other occupations was $1.25 an hour. Almost all entry level jobs for females started at minimum wage.

I guess we graduated high More...

Blueberries are the berries that are so high here, and second, blackberries. I want blueberry bushes, but dwarft ones, cause we get late frosts and then no berries that year. with dwarft ones, I can put in containers next to house and cover them from house wall to floor, keeping them frost proof.
