Jane, I was thinking the same thing about their pumpkins. we have a huge pumpkin carving party every year and the kids love collecting the seeds and roasting them.

1:50 Good morning all!
Ah, Queensland Blue, lovely pumpkin. We seem to get more Jarrahdale in the shops here lately, or Kent pumpkin.

Carving is hard and we have established I am lazy, Thing I and I have brought out markers and decorate the pumpkins.

I've stayed at quite a few B&B's , can't say as I 've noticed ever having ironed sheets. Of course I've solved this whole dilemma quite easily. My sheets are getting old, and I'm down to the last set for our bed. Money is extremely tight for us, as my husband lost his job and was unemployed More...

that works too Karen...what's funny is we host the party for the 'hood and never end up having any carved pumpkins ourselves. They'd be hard to notice anyways with all the other decorations. When I firgure out how to shrink pictures w/o seizing up my computer/internet connection, I'll post some pics of Halloween, Shannon-style. Glad to hear your sis is okay, Karen.

Of course now I want Fall to hurry up and get here so I can have some Roasted Butternut Squash Soup.

Plum - I use Picasa to easily resize pictures. It's a free download and great for all kinds of editing. I'll be happy to share the details with you if you'd like.

Sorry, that was supposed to be "Shannon". I don't know why I'm confusing you two. Maybe it was the 2 glasses of wine I had for lunch!!!
27/Aug/10 10:14 AM

...maybe it was your mention of your internet connection seizing up, Shannon. I know Plum has lots of internet issues.

Jane, marrying the man you did, I think you'd be able to handle two glasses of wine at lunch by now.

I'll check it out, thanks. I used shrinkpictures.com and I kept seizing/losing my internet. As you stated that you have Jamie for ironing/sewing I usually leave all computer stuff to my other half. The one picture I posted is huge, so I know I did it wrong and don't want to subject you all to a large photo gallery.

Nevertheless I am interested in Picasa. Will it reduce file size in KB without reducing image size? I ask because I have 50x50 pixel images I'd like to submit as avatars but they are over 5KB in file size. If I could reduce the file size, I could submit them.
27/Aug/10 10:20 AM
 |  |

Shannon - When I'm shrinking photos for avatars, Picasa reduces the KB without affecting the quality of the picture. When I shrink a photo to 50x50, the KB is never over 5. I'm not sure how it does it, but it does it automatically. when I want to post a picture in my gallery, I usually shrink it to 640.

Shannon, I would love to help you, but I get a thrill when I get a picture to go through and have no idea what I did to do it.

Ok, so it's Plum this time. I swear, I don't know who I'm talking to half the time!!! Anyway, Picasa is a great tool!

If I would just look at the avatar and name maybe I could figure it out. Duh!!!

Plum (and I double-checked and really am talking to Plum) - Regarding wine, Jaime and I never drink at lunch! I only do it when I'm out with the girls!

Whichever one you're talking to , we are both benefitting from the info. So Karen, I was wondering when you said your sis had to sit in an ambulance all day and can't run the A/C...I'm assuming she's an EMT? And they don't have a station they're from rather than sitting in the rig?
27/Aug/10 10:46 AM
 |  |

You are correct Shannon, she is an EMT. She did work for a company that stayed at the station until a call came in. Now she works for a business that is worried about profits and imagine. They position different buses around the city and have to sit there until called out.
27/Aug/10 10:59 AM
 |  |

So, can I ask Karen - when there is an emergency call, it obviously goes out via 911 and do all these Emergency vehicles hear the call and race to be first at the scene? Do you, even as a victim, have to check the credentials of each Emergency company, before you give one of them the go-ahead to More...

 |  |

I ask this because here, our emergency services are Govt run (badly) - Emergency calls come through 000 (Triple 0 - our emergency #) and are then channelled through to the nearest station - in most larger suburban areas and towns. That team take the call and attend the emergency - huge delays More...
27/Aug/10 11:42 AM
 |  |

I should explain that I am not complaining about our Emergency people themselves, who do their difficult jobs well, just the way the service is run - understaffed and underfunded.

Morning all.

My mother used to iron everything, including the underwear. Not only that it was her all time Favourite Job, and is upset that she is no longer able to do it, and wishes she could do mine.
I wish she could do mine too !!

Pumpkin Varieties available here in the West: Jarrahdale, Kent, Butternut

Did someone mention Tim Tams YUMMMM!!!!
27/Aug/10 11:52 AM
 |  |

Cyn B, I was wondering that as well - how the calls get managed. I know in some towns here that service has been outsourced. Isn't it great to know that our gov't isn't the only one that runs things badly . We pay for it in our municipal taxes. But as I'm sure you've heard, some states More...

I don't understand ironing underwear ( although I think I remember my grandma ironing her bras) - who can see it under your clothes? And the person who is working their way there, isn't exactly wasting time thinking, "sheesh her undies are wrinkled"
27/Aug/10 12:01 PM

Shannon - ours are also a state by state thing so I'm not sure how well they are run and funded in other states.

Your insurance does cover some of the cost but there's your deductible and the bill is high - especially if you don't have insurance. And sometimes depending on the situation the claim can be denied. An EMT once told me they take basic info at the scene, including your social security# and that's More...

Re: the ironing of underwear - totally agree, Shannon. Who else is going to look?
My mother ironed everything, including underwear. I iron nothing if I can help it.

Some areas don't even have 911 service, my town didn't when we first moved here and I was shocked. Even if you have it, it goes through a central command center, so you're better off knowing your local station's direct emergency line. And there's always fraud. They're supposed to be licensed but More...

Does 9pm qualify as night? or is it still evening?
Are Blue Pumpkins for real? When reading the posts I was not imagining an actual blue pumpkin...especially not that shade of blue.
Looks like something from the Aggie experimental farm.

I wonder where the day has gone. It was rather busy here this afternoon. Just went to eat Chinese down the street. Think the best part was the Neapolitan ice cream I had for dessert. It was good to get out for a while though and not cook or clean up.

Been watching the Little League World Series games as I can. Thrilled to see the Texas team won this afternoon. It didn't look like they would early on.

Goodness, CynB. Never question if you can ask me a question.
To answer your questions, I have no idea. I would guess the dispatcher would call the closest bus. If you did not want or need help, a call should not have been made. Payment, I don't think is discussed during an emergcy. Thankfully, More...

Hazel - the inside of the pumpkin is the usual orange colour. The skin is actually a greenish/grey but can look blue. Hence the name.

Saying that, I am also so happy that there are people in the world that are willing to touch someone else to help them heal.
Most thankful for those nurses that had to deal with me, when I was in the hospitatl. You talk about saints. I have learned in my two trips, that I am not a good patient. I do not try to be difficult, it just comes out naturally.

Ummm Karen, three times? - is he a klutz , life flight that doesn't sound good. Everytime we've needed emergency service, we've just thrown the person in the car and raced to the hospital ourselves - luckily never 'life-threatening'.

Thanks Karen.
I like to stay away from Medical people too, but, it helps to know that if you or your loved ones need help it arrives swiftly and with competent caring people to look after you.

I think the ironing of the underwear and everything goes back to the days, before Clothes Dryers, when especially during winter when clothes are not quite dry, ironing them finishes the drying.
And I guess before Steam Irons too, slightly damp clothes are easier to iron and gets the wrinkles More...
