I located the cause of our popups - daughter downloading Windows Live Messenger +. It's strange though that the popups only occur while I'm on this site.

Rola, just got back on site. Glenn is correct. My grandmother was born and raised in PA, not sure where. I'm not sure of her ancestry as he was difficult to get along with. She was either Moravian or Mennonite. My father, her son, was raised Methodist.

Glenn, made my hubby scrapple (we More...

Nancy, went to the Wikipedia site. Most of it is right, but there are differences between PA Dutch and Amish.
PA Dutch are of German and Dutsch ancestry, but most were Lutheran. The Amish are of German ancestry and are Anabaptists.
The Amish I know back home speak German.

General McKenzie was in charge of the Navy, and he was visiting his colleague General Marshall, who was in charge of the Army. McKenzie arrives at the military camp and is greeted by Marshall. They both walk around the place, and McKensie asks: 'So how are your men?'

Nancy, I don't understand it. I stopped by the other day and baked one for you. Maybe the pie fairies came by.

Rola, speck und bona is ham, green beans and potatoes cooked together.

Now you're both probably really hungry. I know I'm getting there. :)

Becky....um no the to Scapple, yes to the Shoo-fly Pie, if it wasn't for the green beans (not a favourite veg), I would almost say yes to speck und bona !!!
now if you were to serve Bruin Boonjes and Speck, or Hachee, or Oliebollen, or Appelflappen.......ohhhh yes please !!!! yummmmmm !!
28/Apr/07 1:29 PM
 |  |
Rola, I could go for the last 3. I have to confess, I Googled the recipes. Couldn't find Bruin Boonjes and Speck, so I'm not sure what it is.

I also have to confess, I use chops minced real fine in scrapple. Real scrapple is made with boiled hog's head meat. :(

Nancy, the next time I'm in your stomping grounds, will stop in and bake another.

Bruin Boonjes and Speck : Brown Beans and Bacon
Hachee (mum calls it different (in frisan), but I dont know how to spell it) : beef and onion stew.
Oliebollen: deep fried dough dusted with icing sugar ... traditionaly served on New Year's Eve.
Appelflappen : Apple Fritters, also served on New Year's Eve.

Rola, is the Bruin Boonjes and Speck made in a skillet. My mom used to fry up bacon, drain some of the grease off, add onions, then green beans, and cook until the beans just started to brown. Yum.

Judy, are we making you hungry? :)
28/Apr/07 1:58 PM

I'm hungry only for GOOD food. We've been eating what the three little ones eat for the last three days, and hot dogs, chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, and burritos are growing quite tiresome. I'd kill for a steak and salad! Hula was fun, as well as the ball games, bike riding, the beach, reading, Legos ...

Glad you are having fun, and yummy food to eat!!!
How many more sleeps before Mum and Dad come home, so Grandma and Grandad can rest ??

Two more sleeps here at my daughter's house. But my husband ... aka Chicken Little ... can't complain ... he went home to sleep! Gr-r!

Yes, BECKY ... the recipes above sound scrumptious!

Judy, if they'll eat burgers, have your hubby grill a couple of steaks along with burgers. My great niece loves carrot and celery strips along with dip. That way you guys can have your steak and salad, and, the young ones can have finger food.

Just an idea.

Judy...Tell 'Chicken Little' he's getting old
28/Apr/07 2:13 PM

Good ideas, Becky, but I think I'll let the anticipation grow ... and enjoy said meal once our grandparenting duties have ended! Rather than scarfing a treat while I'm tending to three little darlings, I'd rather wait for ... candlelight, peace and quiet, a good bottle of wine, a rare filet mignon, a green salad ...

A 98 year old woman wrote this letter to her bank.

Dear Sir,

I am writing to thank you for bouncing my cheque with which I endeavoured to pay my plumber last month.
By my calculations, three 'nanoseconds' must have elapsed between his presenting the cheque and the arrival in my More...
