All this talk about the first day of school,,,

On the first day of college, the Dean addressed the students, pointing out some of the rules.

HI all! Hope you all had a nice weekend. Last Friday's puzzle was rather easy and brought in lots of answers - not that anyone was actually happy having an easy puzzle...never mind. Of course there were two answers: either you turned the nuber sequence upside down and it read correctly, or you More...

I am awaiting Linda's arrival. I hope they didn't trust the GPS, if they had one. The GPS doesn't know where I live. Funny too, 'cause the house is 1/2 mile off the main road through our little town. I think "little town" is the clue why it doesn't know where I live. Have a nice day to all and a restful sleep to our down under friends.

I really like Bobby Flay's recipe. Go to foodnetwork.com and type in creamy cole slaw. It seems people who aren't slaw fans seem to like that one, I always get asked for the recipe

Hi Jerry!
After yesterday's posts I wanted to put in my two cents - I still see hope for the future. I see kids being kind to each other - my students have PE and music with the special day class students and I see them reaching out and caring for their special friends. I see them making sure that everyone participates and has his/her share of fun and goodies. All without a word from me.

No Jerry I'm not singling you out! You're the gentle reminder of the golden rule. But you do it with a chuckle!

Ok I've had my say and now I'll go to work. Another year, another bunch of kids, and obviously another set of problems. Why can't I have the same set of problems, now that I'm prepared for them! Mustn't complain because I did pick this job for the boredom factor. I get frantic, frustration, joy, but never bored!!! ROFL!!

Jerry that is reminding me of a night where the guys had to lower us out the window with tied together bed sheets. I went to a very old school religious college and they pretty much didn't allow opposite sex visitors after 9 p.m. We weren't even doing anything 'bad', just had been hanging out and More...

Hi Karen,
Re phoning places - when you get that menu system on the phone where you have to press various keys to get through the menus, try this:
Keep quiet (if you possibly can) and keep little fingers from pressing buttons (if you possibly can). After a few phone repetitions of 'I don't More...

Let me know if she wants to meet Elvis....my husband's family seemd to be harboring him in Wisconsin. They keep sending me some of his stuff, guess they don't have enough closet space for all of The King's belongings

Hehehe, Neil, darling, are you implying I cannot keep quiet, long enough to wait through those darn menus? I have done that before, I will give it a try, this afternoon. Thanks.

Does cauliflower go with fish? Does not sound like a combination made in heaven, but I am hungry for both. The fish will be broiled with lemon and onion slices, while I think the cauliflower should be steamed. What a big yawn for dinner. Any suggestions on how to spruce it up?

Karen,
Of course, I am not implying anything, and I never imply anything.
It is that the systems that are used (IVRs - Interactive Voice Recognition) try to interpret any noise through the phone as possible inputs; if they cannot work out what it is, you get sent back to the input queue again More...

you need something green in there Karen, if only for the colour! chuck in some French green beans. Or do half cauli half broccoli?

I like cauliflower but not cooked. Just add a salad and then cut up cauliflower which can then also be dipped in the dressing. Way too healthy thinking as I'm sitting here eating bbq potato chips. Wait hubby made some more roasted salsa yesterday, corn chips and salsa are health-ier, right? Goes better with that tequila I'm contemplating...

Karen, Put the (partially chopped-up) cauli into a dish with a sauce made of milk or cream, condiments to your taste, dill (or basil or some other aromatic herb) and a suitable cheese - my preference is for blue cheese, but any other cheese except the low fat ones are fine (for me). Bake at a moderate to high heat, until the top of the sauce browns nicely.

I was thinking that Fiona, spinach, brocoli, green beens, were going through the enny, meany, minny, mo thing. (Yes,Phantom, I know everyone of those words are misspelt). Then a garden salad would also add green and red to the plate. Why can I just not call for delivery! Or have a cabana boy do it More...

You already took Jose, stay away from my cabana boy. That is actually one of the best things with hubby travelling so much. I just eat whenever I feel like it or am actually hungry. My father is one of those who eats by the clock. It killed me having to eat dinner at 6 yesterday as he was visiting.

The Cricket and the Ant
translation by Don Webb

The cricket had sung her song

she thought, help her More...
