Easter - Of all the religious holidays, in the Orthodox faith this is the “big one” the most important of all.
My Girls and I have these last 3 days been fasting in preparation for Holy Communion which we will receive Tomorrow Morning.
Many people fast before Easter, which means we are not More...

Angie love the YouTube.
I'm gonna give my age away here but I did think all those girls 'having fun' were also having 'bad hair days'. Maybe it is me today as I am having a bad hair day(not quite that bad though!!)

Back again - as Little Miss Giggles! Have certainly had a few giggles over the jokes of the last few days. Spent this afternoon catching up on the posts since Sunday since I've been a bit busy this week.

ANGIE, I can imagine how difficult a meal with no animal products would be to prepare. Are there traditional recipes passed down in families? Loved all the eggs, wow,and love that shade of red. What do you use for dye? I know, I ask a lot of questions.

MizTrica, theres really no traditional recipes, just think along the lines of Vegiterian Meals, lots of salads, fruit etc. We use Red Food colouring to dye the eggs. My biggest problem with the eggs is trying to hard boil them and not having them crack on me.
If anyone out there knows how to hard boil eggs and not have the shell of egg crack, please let me know.

Angie: I have luck this way- Bring the (large size) eggs to room temp(leave out for 1/2 hour or so). Cover with cold water and bring to a rolling boil. Cover, remove from heat and let sit for about 20 minutes. Run cold water into the pan to cool.
I've never had one crack on me with this method.

Angie - simmer on low low temperature for a longer time. constantly watch them and gently swish the saucepan around to keep the heat evenly distributed inside and outside the egg. ............or give them to your mother to do! lol

Angie: Kathy is on to it. If you google the words

hard boil egg shell crack (all together, without quote marks)

there are dozens of discussions about that and other egg-boiling tips. Starting with the eggs and water at the same temperature seems to be the key, i.e., don't put eggs straight from the refrigerator into boiling water.
