OH, a small thrill and I did not realize it was that time.

Last call, alarm going off, means it is time for me to get some beauty sleep.
Nice chatting with you tonight.

Good night people of the world. Till tomorrow.

Do you know those candles that Hispanics light and have on shrines? Tall glass/ceramic cylinders that are crystallized on the outside? they left me two Elvis candles like that when they were here earlier this summer. My mother found an Elvis license plate at her K-Mart and gave it to me. So we More...

Just snuck back for a second. What do you call sulkies in America. They're the cart or gig that the driver sits on behind a harness horse.

Must I use those whips? get back to work, mister!

Yay, the election is finally decided. Julia Gillard for PM. It's been a very long 2+ weeks.

Goodnight Karen.
A lot of people who start selling Avon here end up buying more than they sell.
I am thankful to be so busy with it but I have put a lot of hard work into it and slowly but surely my customer base has grown and hopefully will continue to do so.
My last campaign I sold $1,792 worth to 38 customers.

Amen to that Vicki! Thankfully, a decision...ANY DECISION!

Thanks for letting us know Victoria.
Thought it might have finally been finalised today. What a long drawn out affair it has been.
Rob Oakeshott is our Independent candidate here.
Oh dear, lots of people will be really upset he has sided with Julia.

So what party is she associated with and is this considered a good result?

Funnily enough, I'm in Wilkie's electorate and he also is an independant. I like most Australian have been utterly disenchanted with both parties in the last 10 years but the one issue that I really think is important for us in regional areas is the fibre broadband rollout. Secondly we really have More...

Unlike America, our two main parties have such similar philosophies and the fact that neither has control of the House of Review (Senate), that there is really little difference . THe Liberals are nominally pro business and the Labor Party is as the name indicates nominally pro worker. Very few people are actually members of either party and most Australia grade politician below used car salesmen.

Well put Saylz.

Gillard is from the Labor (note there is no U in Labor) Party. She is an extraordinarily intelligent woman who if she can establish some control over her crazy colleagues might do a reasonable job.

yes, I realized the folly of my question as soon as I posted it. a good result in politics? sadly the best we can hope for here is 'gridlock', maybe that will stem the tide of damage they seem to be bent on causing. I'm amused that people think we actually have two different parties here as well. More...

Having read those posts again FFS has struck badly. I won't attempt to make corrections as there are too many errors. I think you can understand what I mean.

A result at last! I'm happier with this result than I would be with the alternative. That said - I hope both major parties have learnt a lesson from this!

I enjoy Avon. However, after my recent move, I promised to shop in my own closet for a while. That did not keep me away from the JoAnn's Labor Day sale today of course. There are still notions that I don't have, and material to buy for Halloween costumes for my girls. I saved almost as much as I spent. Sadly, it all fit into one bag.

It is late here in the land of Oz. I need to wake the Tin Man, who is peacefully snoozing in his chair, and take him to the sleeping chamber.

Actually Shannon the situation here is very interesting. There are 150 seats in our House of Representatives and Labor has 72, Liberals 72 and 8 non Party members. Since our election 17 days ago, those independents who have the balance of power, have been pork barrelling to the max, to see what More...

saylz, while I agree we need to take care of our planet, I hope this doesn't mean you've jumped on Al Gore's bandwagon.

but if they're independent, can't they just vote however? If they throw their support to one of the parties, then do they have to support every agenda of that particular party, and what's the point of being independent then? Thanks for all this education, by the way

BY the way who is Al Gore (LOL) I thought he was a bull fighter on the wrong end of a bull.

They have stated that they wont vote against their chosen party in the matters of supply, but they will remain independent in matters that affect their constituency, and will vote accordingly, even if that is against the government.

I'll get away yet. They have only agreed to vote for the budget and not to vote for frivilous no confidence motions. On all other issues they are free to vote however they like. This could mean that the only legislation the Government can get through is the annual budget. Other than that nothing would be able to be changed for the next three years.

we certainly live in interesting times...thanks all for the explanations
07/Sep/10 4:41 PM

Or, saylz, in a perfect world, it could mean that they could legislate for the good of the people and it would be passed by majority vote!
Oh, was that a pig flying by?

You might as well start stocking up on the large size of your favorite 'viewing snacks'. We're only 2 months away from our mid-term elections, and it should be ever so entertaining.
