This was a photo from my front porch last summer. We were relatively safe (the fire was about 30 miles away). It wasn't able to be completely contained, and ended up burning in the rugged mountains to the north until it stopped naturally. It moved so rapidly that three people died in its path, More...

That is an inspired photo Wilodene. Congratulations.
We have more than our fair share of wildfires (we call them bushfires) in Australia and the smell of the smoke is unforgettable - particularly when you realise that you are down wind of the fire.

Wilodene, what an interesting photo ...but an even more interesting story behind the photo. I guess there IS a bright side to snowfall, after all!

I have been up in Idaho almost a month caring for 5 little grandsons while their mother was recovering from the birth of the sixth. I have been lucky to have the energy to look at Sudoku about once a week, and way too tired to post. Now I'm back and have so much to catch up here, but I do take a Sudoku break once or twice a day. It's nice to be back and hear what everyone has to say.

Great picture. Warm here today, about 73 and blue sky. No smoke today but I know how you feel. We have had our share of wild fires here. Mostly in the summer. Glad you were safe. Take care and have a good day, or evening.

Wilodene, incredible capture of what could have become a most dire situation. I lived in S.F. when California experienced their driest rain seasons in recorded history. During their worst seasonal wildfires ('86? '87? '88?), a group of volunteer fire jumpers got caught on the top of a ridge. Their More...

5:07. You've let the cat out of the bag Rosemary!

This photo prings back vivid memories of the January 2003 fires around Canberra that destroyed over 500 homes and took 3 lives. It never hurts to be reminded, otherwise there's always the danger of becoming complacent.
