Hi Everyone,

Been busy again, and I've come up with another site. This time - word search

http://wordsearch.name

It is still in its early stages, so let me know what could be improved & I'll get to it. Send an email rather than leave a comment here so I will definitely see it.

The hards are getting too easy for me, but the toughs seem impossible, even though I check out the proofs that are posted.

Good afternoon to all! The ice follies Yon from Mn, not hockey! They're not carrying sticks!!

Elizabeth from Newmarket: On the toughs, when I see nothing else to do, and have filled in and checked all possibilities, and cleared for doublets and triplets and whatever, I just pick a likely doublet (preferably one that affects two different columns and two different rows), and make a 'guess' More...

Ohhh-I haven't skated since I lived in Michigan some 23 years ago. Probaly break a bone now if I tried. Is it like riding a bike? You never forget how? Got my bike out the other day now that it cooled down a bit so I can get some exercise and lose weight.

ginger - I agree with you completely! There are a couple of sodokulists on 'tough' who take much time and effort to show why one unique solution is true - but, I don't really care that much. I guess that shows my inefficient, lazy brain! Many people find their explanations both helpful and thought More...

Ginger: I do the same thing. The proofs on 'tough' often have what is called a forbidding chain which seems to be just what we are doing by guessing and seeing if it doesn't work out. I think as we get better, though, we can learn to make our guesses better and our chains shorter so that we find there are only two or three moves after the 'guess' that lead us to an incorrect conclusion.

GREG OR JOE: Is is true that babies are born wearing ice skates in Canada? I actually heard that when I was growing up in Michigan! Must be a little painful for the moms. My childhood hero: Gordie Howe!

How early do kids start skating in US/Canada?
 |  |
12:04 I'll have scotch with that.
 |  |
How many scotches have you had by now, fi?
A bit quiet at work so filling in time.

Gath, I like the new word puzzle, that helped fill in a bit of time.

I didn't know there was a Penrith in Sydney. There is a Penrith here in the Lake District, a little town about 30 miles north of me. I suppose the name comes from there!

I reckon you'd be right, celia - an awful lot of place names here are straight copies of somewhere in Britain. Try this list of places in or near Melbourne: Doncaster, Richmond, Sandringham, Beaumaris, Epping, Hastings, Hampton, Brunswick, Camberwell, Canterbury... you name it, there's probably one in Australia somewhere (if not more than one - there are quite a few repeats in different states).
