It would be interesting to actually see a hummingbird some time! It's way too cold for them in these parts. Judging from what I've heard it may be easier to hear than see one these buzzing little things.

Slower than yesterday.
Cute little birds! Their flight makes them look like a big colorful/colourful bumblebee.

One of these little flyers buzzed by my head the other day. It's fun when they do that. You are sure they will hit you, but they just get really close and you can hear their wings humming in the air!

I see them often, but have never heard one. They don't buzz like a mosquito.

I love hummingbirds and have only seen one in our backyard; as soon as I bought a feeder, I never saw it again.

If you pass too closely to a hummingbird's nest, they WILL hit you! We have been bonked by wings on the head and shoulder ... and scratched by dirty-little-birdie-feet on the arm and face!

That's a beauty -- and a great photograph! In the northeast there is just one species of hummingbird -- the ruby-throated hummingbird. We enjoy watching them come to a feeder outside our kitchen window. They also love Bee Balm (Monarda Didyma), a bright red flower, native to the US. They prefer tubular shaped flowers and especially red.

I tried to photograph a hummingbird at a feeder but my flash went off accidentally (because muggins forgot to turn it off) and all I got was a photo of a blur out towards the edge of the photo. It must have lightning reactions.
Anne went out the next morning and came back in five minutes with a More...

When we were taking the Copper Canyon tour in Mexico, We stayed at a hotel in the canyon that had humming bird feeders on a balcony overlooking the canyon. There were many of them humming around our heads as we sat having pre-dinner drinks. People didn't seem to intimidate them at all! Cute little guys.

Jyrki, I was surpised to hear that Finland has no hummingbirds because they definitely are seen in the (just as cold) northern U.S. and Canada. Checking online, I discovered that hummingbirds apparently exist nowhere in Europe, altho fossil remains have been found. Who knew?
