Very interesting lighting on those trees, Robin.
(Or do they really have a natural reddish colour/color?)
Will have to "Google".

I wouldn't be surprised if even the trees are red in Australia, but it does look like a sunrise or sunset glow.

Mallee is a type of Eucalyptus? The bark is red below the sun, too, isn't it? I remember seeing red trees in California when I was there. gorgeous color in a bark.

I agree with Kristy. It looks like it is either very early morning or late evening. Which ever, it is a very pretty effect! THanks!

8:55, hi everyone. Mallees are a type of eucalyptus, the name of them stems from the root system and somewhere around 100 of Australia's eucalypts are known as Mallees.

Mallee are a gum that has a lignotuber root system with multiple stems. They are VERY hardy & can live in arid to wet climates. The one in the picture is probably a Dowerin Rose. If it is then the bark really is that colour.

When I was a kid my father loved to get a load of mallee roots to burn in the fire. They were solid and twisted and burnt slowly and made a lovely fire. I now realise they came from the area of Victoria known as the Mallee and were a by-product of the clearing of the land for farming, in the days before there was much awareness of the need for soil conservation.

It's funny how the Yanks struggle with the pictures from Oz (and show our ignorance) and then during the Australian day we get all these glorious answers. Thank you all.
