5:08 Very pretty but all Aussie wild flowers and trees are.

4:08 Hi to all. Beautiful colours, reminds me of Summer, whenever that was... seems so long ago.

mAen! 4:56. I heard that eucalyptus leaves are
good for 'beating' yourself in a sauna. I've
never had a chance to test that. We use birch
leaves up here :)

I had no idea they flowered! The smell of the trees themselves are beautiful.

It amazes me sometimes how complacent I am in my little world; I never knew eucalyptus flowered! And such a striking flower, at that. Eucalyptus is a tree, isn't it? How tall do they grow? Anything other than the wonderful leaves! and beautiful flowers I should know about this plant? Wonder how many other bits of knowledge will amaze me before I die....

3:56 MAEN Gorgeous flowers!

Anne, thanks for the memories. I remember singing that song when I was a kid, and I'm not even Aussie!
 |  |
5:17 Very exotic flower. Still waiting for a picture of a wombat to appear ... or how about a meerkat? (no relation to the other kats that we've seen)

4.17 Quite easy today
 |  |
hey,do they flower like that..never seen or heard!!!
 |  |
3:44. This must be easy day.
Eucalyptus trees have many desirable and undesirable properties here in CA. I've heard the duff prevents fleas. They are considered weeds here since they are nonnatives. They grow very tall and keep other things from growing, and they burn easily so are dangerous in wildfires.

a second puzzle without a cat! wonderful!

maEn to all!
Of course every plant has flowers, but it never crossed my mind what kind of flowers eucaliptus has. They are look amazingly beautiful.

Must be a different species of eucalyptus than I am used to. I thought they had small round leaves, not long flat ones like this tree has.

Very interesting flower though.

The Eucalyptus flowers are certainly outstandingly beautiful!

Martha's comment is so true, however. It can be risky to import non-native plants. A good example in the northeast US is the purple loosestrife, a beautiful sight to behold when it grows en masse, but it spreads like More...

Hey Ann,
When I was a kid in Melbourne we had our own special kid lyrics for that song,

Kookaburra sits on electric wire
jumping up and down with his pants on fire
jump kookaburra, jump kookaburra
boy your bum is hot

Or something like that. Wow haven't thought of that in over 40 years - thanks for the memories!!!

Beautiful flowers. Easy puzzle today.
mAen.

Judy, thanks for the ref. I learned a lot.

Good afternoon to all! I didn't know that eucaliptus flowers sang, especially with an Aussie accent! Learn something new every day!
 |  |
Jake-I never finish in the middle but yes, an easy medium.

Jyrki- My husband built a very nice sauna which we use all winter long, but don't know about the beating with birch thing. Why is that good?
 |  |
Another one of mine! We pulled over at a rest stop on the Hume Highway about 30km north of Albury and there was this pretty little tree in full flower saying 'Please photograph me' So I did.

To Judy from San Diego. I just read the article about eucs as weeds. Wow! interesting stuff. I have been to Bolinas several times although I never see the supposed wealth. Rather the opposite. But I haven't been able to find it lately because of the removal of the road signs. And speaking of More...

I too, have just read the article about eucs as weeds and in my humble opinion if you believe everything in the article then you probably believe in fairies at the bottom of the garden. While some of what is said is true enough, it also contains comments that are emotive and biased. I note that More...

I think that is called - 'rising to the bait'.

5.06 super speedy for me

Ann and Big Red - does it go on:
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Eating all the gumdrops that he can see
Stop, Kookaburra, Stop, Kookaburra
Leave some there for me.
Or something like that. I think there is also a third verse about monkeys. But I'm too old to remember!
 |  |
I agree, IAN. The article is from the Audubon Society, and many environmental groups routinely overstate the issues.
 |  |
This is my first post, tho' I often 'warm up' the work day or wind down the day with a puzzle. The third verse of the Australian folk song (which I learned growing up in Canada)goes something like:
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Counting all the monkeys he can see
Stop, Kookaburra, More...
