It is a sea shell, delicate and fragile. The murex family of shells are all covered with spines in various patterns. Interestingly (if that's a word), each species reproduces exactly the same shape. The 'Venus Comb' murex is probably the most attractive of the whole family.

When I was a little girl I would put a shell up to my ear to hear the ocean. Don't think you would want to do that with this shell. 86 and sunny today - send me some rain if ya can.

5.41 What a beautiful shell - pity you can't find these on the beaches. Think only the fishermen at sea get shells this good now.

By the time this kind of shell reaches the beach, the spines are usually worn off, I think.
Easy puzzle, but I goofed it up anyway.

I'm now able to do this level without marking possibilities. Very pleased with myself.

Good mAen. Just finished a 10 mile ride to raise money for Special Olympics. Got rained on the last 1/2 mile. Thank God it held off! :) What a beautiful picture to relax to!

I love murex shells. I have just one--from off the coast of Fiji. Is this from off the coast of OZ? We don't see these in the North Atlantic.

Ian, this is a most interesting photo. I suppose that this is the 'skeleton' - what do they look like when alive? And did you 'catch' this yourself? (Are they members of Gastropoda?)
