They look big enough to use as stepping stools. Well, I think I'm going to watch "Anchors Aweigh" now. Maybe I'll come back and try the last two later.

no timer today...as a general rule you cannot eat the "shelf" mushrooms although a thorough research of the cap, frill, stock, gills and a spore print should verify. (Amateur mycologist here)I personally like to hunt for the boletes. They are all edible and easily recognizable

When I lived in Seattle, it was a common practice for a group to go out to the Olympic Peninsula on Friday night, spend Saturday hunting mushrooms, and come back on Sunday for an all-mushroom dinner, including dessert.

A mushroom dessert? What, just dribble on some chocolate sauce??
Actually, sauteed portobello mushroom caps make a great sandwich!

Ok, please someone tell me, how can one tell which fungi are edible? Are those pictured really edible, or was that just a clever caption.

maen all! european wives tale: cook 'shrooms with your gold wedding band. if band turns green they are poisonous. i tried this with psilocybin 'shrooms when i was going to school in florida. there was a greenish residue on ring after just a few minutes.

A tree by my brother's lake cottage in MN had those, and we took funny (at least to us) photos with forks in hand, ketchup, salt and pepper on the side. The next big storm blew that tree over, right onto the roof of the cottage. Mushroom's revenge?

deltz -- I think you need to add to your advice of ''cook 'shrooms with your gold wedding band. if band turns green they are poisonous'' back on page one. Addition: if you die then your relatives know the ring wasn't really gold!
