hi Steve, didn't see your proof, I think I avoided the swordfish using 2 forbidding chains, right?

16.45 Beautiful mountain peaks!! Reminds me of when I flew to Italy & saw the Alps poking through the clouds. Magnificient!!
 |  |
Not sure if it's the Alps, though it seems reasonable.

I needed two guesses today...
 |  |

A high altitude test.

Want to say hi to new friends granniemo, susan (texas) and LKinMN in chatroom yesterday. I cured my insomnia by staying awake all day and falling into heavy sleep! ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz! Catch up with you again in chatroom soon? :)

Hi nic - yes we looked at exactly the same strong sets with the 3's. In fact, I saw the coloring eliminations, then realized it was a swordfish.
 |  |
with the try snd error technique, once!

Since today's puzzle was not too challenging, I took the time to look at the puzzle of July 4 - it seemed to be a monster. It has been taimed a tad, but the proof I published for it is still not ideal.

forgot to start timer after a pause
not too difficult today
nice photo
have a great day/night one and all

19:53 after setup. DIdn't notice the swordfish, did with colors but probably same thing. COOL picture!

I'm fairly new to sudoku but this site caught my attention recently. However, it is difficult for a newbie to catch up with the notation (not always the same) used in describing solutions. Is there a quick summary of conventions used somewhere?
 |  |
9:42 no guesses
 |  |
Hi ray - the conventions used are not standard at this site - unfortunately. There are some standards:
grid: columns are letters a thru i a is bottom left
rows are numbers 1 thru 9. 1 is bottom left.

forbidding chain notation explanation available thru proof link at bottom of page. - More...

Somehow I managed to do this puzzle without the swordfish. I don't mean to brag, and I don't particularly care to go back and try again, but I did it. This was an easy Tough.
