Here's a start:
1. Unique possibilities to 26.
2. Whether b3=9;OR b3=6=c5,c8=8,a8=9; a2=8.UP30.

I quit after 4 chains got me to up=33 with the chains getting weaker and sparser at each step.

my guess is solutions will resemble a complex depth first search tree with many branches. a thankless task (though I could be wrong).

Alfred's deduction is my first chain:
(8=239)c489-(2=689)b3a2c1 => a8<>8 - after that it's like Windows solitaire after you,ve just won a hand - moves very rapidly peter out.

Here's what I have so far. It is slow going.
UP=26.
(8)c5=c8-i8=i6=>b6<>8.
(9=8)a8-c8=(8-6)c5=c1-(6=9)b3=>a2<>9.UP=30 .
(9)h6=g6-g2=(9-2)b2=c1-(2=8)c8-i8=i6=>h6<>8.UP=31.

3. If g2=4,b2=9,b3=6=f1; i4=4 (to avoid the unresolvable 46 rectangle at di89). Hence 4 is locked at i24.
4. If i4=4=b5=g2,b2=9,c1=2,b8=8=i6;left middle box is devoid of 8. Hence i2=4. UP38.
5. If b6=8=h7;right middle box is devoid of 8.So i6=8.UP42.

Ugh.
UP=26.
(8)c5=c8-i8=i6=>b6<>8.
(9=8)a8-c8=(8-6)c5=c1-(6=9)b3=>a2<>9.UP=30.

(9)h6=g6-g2=(9-2)b2=c1-(2=8)c8-i8=i6=>h6<>8.UP=31.
(9)c4=(9-6)c5=c1-(6=9)b3-(9=3)h3-i2=i4 - (3=9)c4=>c5<>9.UP=33.

Hi Jiminoregon. After UP42, if 7(b9), can't i1 also be 7 ? (I have pair 17 at hi1 on my grid at UP42).

Regards, Alfred.

Judy, I'd be in on that! Its wild and cold and wet down here. Darwin seems like a good option. Why let a few thousand k's interfere!
