maen= Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night

MaeN all. Well it's 12:53 AM so both early morning and very much night!
M = morning
A = afternoon
E = evening
N = night
capital for what it is where you are ... but I always struggle with the wee small hours! Are they morning or night?!

Wow...Gath has found my family album!! Libby is 8 years of age in August.

GATH Oops I put my comment about timers on yesterday's tough instead of today's. No point repeating, but hoping it is useful since topic has come up a lot recently.

Nice picture Deb. Do you post on each level of suduko? I usually just post under the easy puzzle. Do people on this site work all the puzzles or just the tough puzzle? How many people post to all the levels? Interesting. Why do you think the easy puzzle level postings are the most numerous?
 |  |
mAen to everyone. I enjoy doing all of the puzzles each day, as well as reading what everyone has posted. If something is of interest to me, I will post to any of them. Nice picture of your neice, Deb.

Deb/Brissy, Your entire family have the same beautiful smiles. Love the pose! Kim, now you see many do all of the puzzles, but most only post a small comment here, if at all. We usually confine our major comments to the easy page since its the first one we do.

The people who post a whole lot on easy puzzles generally like having conversations back and forth with each other..sometimes all day long. Most people who post on other levels really don't have the time or desire to do that, but do like to comment sometimes. Usually on 'tough' people post proofs and exchange solving strategies. And yes, some people work all the puzzles each day.

Hi Everyone,

Thad - I haven't done too much checking about the accuracy of the timer - but I believe you. I was a little surprised to find it could be as inaccurate as 20secs in 5 minutes! The timer works by updating itself every second - if there is a load on your computer then the event More...

Libby has a great smile. Challenging sudoku today.

A difficult proof today. I ended up using unique rectangles, even though I don't like to do that:

1) Start 22, Unique Possibilities to (UP) 26.
2) Locked 8s at ab5 forbid ghi5=8.
3) Naked triplet g5=25, h5=57, i5=27 forbids g4=2, g6=25, a5=2, b5=2, c5=2, e5=257. UP 28.
4) Naked More...

The inspiration to the matrix is the almost hidden pair 26 at a79... takes some thought to see the connection to the matrix though.
1) Start at 22 filled - the given puzzle. Unique Possibilities to 26 filled. (UP 26).
2a) Hidden pair 36 at gh4 forbids g4=28 and h4=8
2b) Hidden pair 48 More...

Hi Clark - interesting proof. I saw a couple of unique rectangle oppurtunities in today's puzzle before I saw the matrix I used in 6b. I believe your unique rectangle proof is valid, just not preferred by gb and Andrei. Personally, I have come to the opposite conclusion and find unique More...

Steve,

I'm not fond of unique rectangles either, since they rely on an assumption I'd rather not make. I went with it because I was having a hard time. Our proofs are actually very similar other than the unique rectangles step.

The large discrepancy occurs on a PC I know to be timer-challenged. My usual PC typically is within a couple of seconds. But the bad one is a useful test considering the wide range of your visitors' equipment.

It may be a while before I run across a cross-checking timer javascript, but I will certainly forward it to you.

when is the new puzzle loaded each day? 3 AM GMT?

Hi Clark
Sorry to ask this but could I ask you please to express in words what line 7) of your proof means.
