Yesterday I was at a wrestling tournament, the Junior High Ohio Catholic Invitational Tournament at St. Ed's close to Cleveland, Ohio. My son's Zach and Ben competed.
It was one of those days that can give a father gray hairs.
Ben had a rough tournament, which was expected as it was a fairly More...

It is good to see that Clark and Dave posted proofs to yesterday's tough. Today's puzzle appears a bit more challenging, but not too bad.

It does solve using only techniques covered so far in the blog. I used three chains (plus hidden pairs and locked candidates):
A depth 2 coloring More...

Does it tell a bible story? Son helped with this one. His mind is so much faster than mine. But, my mind is still better than his. I fear he is about to surpass me in smartness though. His old school had a suduko hanging up in the gym. Yeah sudoku!!!

I don't know much bout stained glass
 |  |
Beautiful stained glass. We've got two leaded glass windows in our den, and with the house settling over the years, one of the windows has bowed out while the other curves inward. Of course, after we've served our guests a few drinks, we tell them the windows are perfectly flat. Nasty, aren't we?

Beautiful windows. Hey, Steve, it sure is tough watching your kids compete and get hurt. I spent many times in the ER with my daughter who was a gymnist. Not so much with my sons yet but they are only 8 and 11.

Steve, my 7 year old son wrestles too. It's a shame an official can screw things up so badly. We had a similar call with a pin, and the video shows my son rolling over. How is that a pin?

Sorry your son got hurt. They say it builds character. Trust me, my kids are characters!!!!

Whoa! Actually solved this one without even one tiny guess. That doesn't happen very often on the Toughs!

Steve: I tried your forbidding chains technique on this puzzle. I'm not sure I understand it yet, but it gave me a guess at e6 that I was pretty sure was correct.

Nice post.
i am trying to wrk it out

Nice stained glass windows but where are they???
 |  |
Very nice proof Dave:
My proof is very similar, and focuses primarily on the same ideas:
Two possible alternates:
4e) fc on 8's: (Finned X wing): d2 == h2 -- h6 == de6 forbids d4=8

and later:
5c) e1=8 == e1=6 -- g1=6 == g6=6 -- h6=6 == h6=8 forbids e6=8
(typical Y wing style above)

Can then go directly to step 5f.
