They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Hi Steve. Many thanks for taking the time to explain, yet again, exactly what forbidding chains are. I always follow your proofs, every day but when I come to do my own they never seem to work and I always go back to what I know - forcing chains, which is just Trial & Error. BTW what is an 'arg'?

Truly crabs in a barrel. Puzzles are rather easy all the way around today. Thats a good thing, it allows me to get through them. lol
 |  |
Great picture of the fruits of the sea. And I like the grey on the figures - thanks Gath

Hi Kaz - arg: short for argument, perhaps better called a statement.
 |  |
Shamelessly had to guess a few times today.
 |  |
11:55...that makes me crabby...get it...oh nevermind :) Maen to all

18:01 and no more puzzles for me today. Time to work. Enjoy your day, everyone.

ANZAC (always written in capitals) Day commemorates the landing of Australian and New Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli, Turkey on 25 April 1915. The attack was to help the British warships break through the Dardanelles and free the Russian warships from the black Sea to allow an attack on More...

No need for any guessing or even super advanced techniques on this one today - 'tis a nice and easy tough!

One could solve it doing as little as below:

1) Start at 22 filled - the given puzzle. Unique Possibilities to 25. (UP 25).
2) c9=2 == i9=2 -- g7=2 == g6=2 forbids c6=2. More...

BTW - even Simple Sudoku solves this one using only 14 or 15 sets total at max depth of 3!
 |  |
I've got crabs! uh oh
 |  |
Maen all, I like it when the toughs don't have me pulling my hair out.

I wonder how much that basket of crabs is worth?

Must have been an easy one today -- only needed one guess!
 |  |
Maen all. Salt Lake is dreary today, snow in the mountains. Good day though. Yep on ANZAC day. My Grandfather was in that war.
 |  |
14:33 The easiest 'tough' I've come across.
 |  |
mAen--- 11.38

I like the grey-out for completed numbers. When the wordoku puzzle goes online, I hope it will have this feature, too.

This Tough was appropriately tough: 8:28 total minutes, 3:47 setup, and 4:41 to solve.

19:24 and two guesses
Maen all

11:31 with a coupla guesses! Feeling a bit crabby today!!
 |  |
mAen to all. Yes Fred, I'm crabby today too!
 |  |
24'27. First time in a while that I've had time (and patience) to solve tough. Great - now dizzy AND squeamish... G'mAen, all.
 |  |
Steve, in your comments you use 'sets' and 'depth.' Can you give a link where these are defined? As a senile senior practicing on the tough puzzles, forgive my naive questions.
 |  |
A dozen Maryland style steamed crabs, a platter of hush puppies and a pitcher of beer! Ambrosia!
 |  |
17.28, and only 1 guess! i like the new feature where the # turns grey in the chooser bar when you're done with it.
 |  |
it only took me 48 minutes, with one guess, for a crappy picture.

Greetings to everyone remembering ANZAC day. My grandfather was at Gallipoli with the British army, so I am aware that it was a desperate campaign, with dreadful loss of life. Grandad always spoke very highly of the courage and spirit of the ANZAC troops. We shall not forget.
 |  |
9:35 - easiest tough in a while! I only needed one guess for this one!

Now, where did I put my Old Bay spice?
 |  |
13:30 I'd like to cite the interruptions and distractions from my partner (playing a particularly noisy computer game) and children (fighting) as the reason for my poor time today... but in all honesty I just couldn't find the starting point until I found that single 4. Then it only took me a 1:30!!!
 |  |
17:14 Yes it wasn't a tough tough - or it'd have taken me much longer if I'd succeeded at all. Chilli crabs anyone?
 |  |
14:31 after setup. Was expecting a much harder puzzle. Usually when the hard is simple I move onto tough to get humbled. But not today.

Hi Richard!
I am not sure that I know of a link where the concepts are explained. I picked it up just from reading the previous posts by gb of France on this site.

Sets: short for Strong sets.
Strong sets: A group of one or more possibiliites (such as cell x = possibility z) More...

Hi! Steve. I am a beginer of the tough puzzles. Sometime I did follow your works and sometime I didn't. For step 2 of today's puzzle, If I do it as c6=2==g6=2--g7=2==i9=2 forbids c9=2, what is wrong with the step. Can you give me your advice. Thanks.
