To all who wish to take part in the competition...

If you go to 'check out my page' after my name you will see a photo of Nicole at 37 weeks. This may help in your guess. Some of you may wish to revise your guess...lol....Maybe the 'BIG CRASH' was a good thing

I can't believe I was able to do all 4 puzzles
 |  |

Pretty Miss Emily.
This puzzle seemed awfully easy to me.
 |  |
Hello everyone, looks like we've bounced back from Emily's baby pictures to Emily at age 5 (current age). Have a great weekend all!

Today's puzzle is one of those that has so many fc's available, it is more difficult to pare down the proof then perhaps it is worth. I believe that a depth 4 proof is possible, but I just kept finding depth 5 steps. The depth 4 steps that I did find did not quite solve the puzzle, but I am fairly confident that I have missed the obvious today.

Possible proof of tough sudoku of 12 03 06:
1) Start at 23 filled - the given puzzle. Unique Possibilities to 28 filled. (UP 28).
2a) Hidden triple 345 at b23c2 forbids b3=289,b2=89,c2=9
2b) Pair 48 at i29 forbids i8=4
2c) {pair 45 at bc2} == {pair 35 at bc2} -- d2=35 == d2=1 -- d9=1 More...
 |  |
Perhaps step 2c is more easily understood as follows:
d2=1 == {triplet 345 at bcd2} -- i2=4 == i9=4 -- d9=4 == d9=1 forbids d47=1, e2=3,h2=4,h9=4.
Note that this is a wrap around chain.

Steve, if you missed anything obvious then so did I. My proof ended up looking at lot like yours:

1) Start 23, Unique Possibilities to (UP) 28.
2) Hidden triplet 345 at b23, c2 forbids b2=89, b3=289, c2=9.
3) Naked pair 48 at i29 forbids i8=4.
4) The wraparound chain d2=1 == More...

Quite a good but easy one.
 |  |
don't understand the nomenclature wihat does 'Start 23, Unique Possibilities to (UP) 28.' mean?
 |  |
phil: 'Start 23' means the given puzzle. 'UP 28' means that one should be able to find the next 5 (28 - 23) cells by the most basic logic.
 |  |
Thanks JL. So there are 23 cells filled in, I only see 3 more UPs ( a 7 8 and 9).

Can you tell me more about the numbering? For example where is b23 (a row a column a square?), c2, i29?

 |  |
Columns are a to i, left to right.
Rows are 1 to 9, bottom to top.
b23 is short way of saying b2 and b3

editorial hidsight - UP=28
1.(28=9)g34-h2=e2-('17)e2f1=(1)d2-d9=('17)gh9 => g9<>8,h2<>1 UP=30
2.(6=2)a5-a1=(2-9)b1=b8-(9=256)g8i78 => i5<>6 UP=81.
