Good mAen all.
8:37 - Where is this mountain?
 |  |
That's a barren-looking place. Fairly easy tough today.
 |  |
Maen,

That does not look like a mountain to me..Where is it? Maybe the person is just close to the top.

good afternoon, beautiful picture just looks a bit chilly there
 |  |
13:00 , but with one guess.... Early snow for Oz.
 |  |
The mountain is the highest peak in the Southern Alps of Australia. Named after the famous Polish explorer who was lost in the central deserts and never found. This happened back in the 1870's or there abouts. If you wait until winter (July through August in Oz) the snow will cover the mountain to More...

18:43 Slow and steady... always happy just to finish the tough one! Stark mountainside!
 |  |
11:35 Have a happy one, all!
 |  |
First there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is....
 |  |
8:38 good Maen all!

21:06 beautiful mountain!

Above the treeline...

Needed one guess and then it all fell in place!
 |  |
1) Start at 23 filled - the given puzzle. Unique Possibilities to 27. (UP 27)
2) Locked 8's at h12 forbid 8 from h5. UP 45.
3) Locked 2's at c12 forbid 2 from a12.
4) Pair 79 at ah1 forbids 7 from ef1 and 9 from df1.
5) d7=5 == {d7=69 and d3=69} -- d2=9 == d2=2 -- f1=2 == f1=5 More...

nic I believe your step 7 and my step 5 are about the same, except that you do not look at cell d3? Somehow you are also a couple of UP's ahead of me the entire way... If your proof is correct ( and not missing any steps), then it would be less deep.

I sorely miss the tutelage (spelling?) of gb.
Has anyone heard anything from him as of late?
 |  |
Wish the picture were a little more cheerful! Completed this tough without possibilities!! Not bad for a senior! :O
 |  |
More snow! Was able to make it to 45 cells filled. Then I had basically all doubles and triples, and the only way to crack them was to make one guess. The rest of the puzzle fell into place.
 |  |
well w/o guess i dont think i would've ever made it!
sigh...so no claim on time taken to see this mountain..
cheers

I did this independently but it's very similar to Steve's:

1) Start 23, UP to 27.
2) Naked triplet h1=789, h2=789, h3=79 forbids g3=79, i3=79, h5=8, h8=79, h9=7. UP 45.
3) Hidden pair 79 at a12 forbids a1=2, a2=2, a7=7, a9=7.
4) Naked pair 79 at ah1 forbids d1=9, e1=7, More...

I love the Toughs when they're like this one! No guesses today! Yippee!

beautiful mountain;time:20:033
 |  |
Pretty slow today - many interruptions. Fun though!
 |  |
is that the limestone city MCD?
mAen all
 |  |
Good mAen to all. I do hope that those kids in the snow (previous picture) weren't sliding down that mountain!!
 |  |
I had one pair that was arbitrary, otherwise, all followed logically. (Or I missed something - not unlikely!)
 |  |
Ahh, Kosciusko! I remember thee well! Touches of homesickness! I agree with others, not a really tough TOUGH today (or tonite, as the case may be!)
 |  |
Yeah !!! Someplace I've been in the pic.
Stayed in Thredbo and skiied there in June '73.
Is Thredbo still all alpine designed structures?
And I got to check out a (sp) Lambourghini Espada
(very expensive sports car) parked in a driveway.

Contact gb via his website and ask him. It would have to be there in the links. I miss him too... even if the mathematical academia is beyond me. :)
 |  |
Same here, MB - had to finally make one guess - which I hate to do!
 |  |
Thanks for taking time to look at my proof. Here is the improved one (did it all again:)
1. Start at 23. UP 27
2. Triple h123=789, elim in col & box; UP 45
3. not needed
4. pair 12 at c12, elim in box
5. pair 79 at a12, elim in col & box
6. a1=h1=79, elim in row
7. Fc: If d2=2, More...
 |  |
Your latest proof is essentailly the same as mine. You can drop your step 4, and your fc is very similar to mine. My chain written your way would be: d2=2 => f1=5, If d2=9, d3=6, d7=5 => f1=5. (I actually found that chain from the fc in your inital proof.)

It helps to have a More...

Come on!! Where's that comment from the West Coast Eagles Supporter. It should be in be now!!
 |  |
Thanks fi!
I have emailed gb, but have not received any response for quite some time - so I am a bit worried. Was just wondering if anyone else had successful correspondence.
 |  |
great pic!!! We did a guided, 14 km round trip, walk up this mountain on our 27th wedding anniversary (Dec) just 7 months after my hubby had had a total knee replacement!! wonderful day!! We left from Thredbo, Jeanine, which is still all alpine type buildings, and up so far in the chairlift, a More...

Wow Mount Kosci! I haven't been there since I was a kid. Thanks for the photo. This puzzle fell into place until the mid 40s and then I checked Steves hints to jump that barrier to complete. Thanks Steve.

to Steve,
Yes I hope that he is just busy - not ill.
