maeN! This was difficult. Turned off the timer (my son wanted to play a game of chess). Couldn't see
my way thru, and started guessing e1. 3 and 6 could be quickly eliminated (in retrospect even I could have eliminated them without playing it out), but 9 lead to a contradiction only after 79 More...

This one looks like it is probably a real monster. I may have time for it later.... like next year!

A proof for last tough!!! sudoku of 2006:
1) Start at 22 filled - the given puzzle. Unique Possibilities to 24 filled. (UP 24).

Today's puzzle almost exhausted my bag of tricks.

I know that it exhausted me.

Someday, when the blog catches up to the really tough techniques, a puzzle such as this monster will make great fodder for the really addicted sudoku solvers...

Steve, how did you manage to get rid of the 3 in b5 when you found the hidden pair 37 at b1,8? Thanks.
