I didn't say I didn't like her...just not a fan. She does ok, maybe its the roles I've seen her in, but she seems to play similar characters. She was great in MBFW. I guess thats the genre she does best(?).

Thanks everyone. We say the trailer for The Proposal at TBTR. Thought it would suit us.
I had short listed Duplicity but it is not showing in Tasmania although it is still on in Victoria. Don't whether we have missed it or it is still to arrive.
What about Easy Virtue with Colin Firth and Jessica Biel ?

PS I've loved JR ever since Pretty Woman. Maybe it's a male thing.

Undoubtedly, Saylz.
I saw EV, very watchable. Noel Coward is always good for light and frothy, good acting, lovely scenery, house to die for, but not to clean!!! A nice light white would go well with it....

Saw Duplicity last night and it was quite entertaining. A gotcha ending, which is always fun. Girls, I am happy to report JR looks all of her 40 years. Don't get me wrong, she's fab at 40, but she's not like Michelle Pfeiffer who became hard for me to watch the more she aged because she didn't show it one whit for the longest time.

Saylz, I don't think the love of JR is a guy thing. I love to watch her and Sandra Bullock. Check out Mystic Pizza -- JR's first movie. She's fabulicious and surrounded by a great cast in a movie that loves its characters.

Hey Terry, I remember MP...a loooong time ago
29/Apr/09 6:51 AM

1988 to be exact. She was 21. And MP wasn't her first movie. Sorry. But it was her breakout role, the one for which folks sat up and said, "Whoa, who is SHE?"

So what do you think is her best role? I don't think I could go past MBFW.

Of course there's Pretty Woman and Erin Brockovich. But she was a hoot and a half in Charlie Wilson's War. Anybody else?

Finally saw Australia. As I recall, not too warmly received on this blog. Aside from its obvious problems -- the broad farce in the first third giving way to melodrama, yada yada -- I thought it was entertaining. I learned things I didn't know about, which I always appreciate. The attempted More...

Thought JR was great in CWW and EB. Did not actually dislike Australia but it certainly did not live up to the hype. It was however not
as great a disappointment as Atonement which my wife and I walked out of.
As for our Nic, I think the highlight of her career was her hit record with Robbie Williams.

PS I also disscovered that Duplicity has been and gone in Tasmania. Might appear at our Art house Cinema or otherwise wait for DVD.

PPS Our Nic also appeared (I can't use the word starred) in arguably the worst film I've seen this century- Margot at the Wedding

I skipped Atonement because of the plot details I heard.
Saw Margot at the Wedding and didn't hate it. I come from a dysfunctional family, so maybe it resonated for me.

On a movie revue show that I like, an Aussie film was given a 5 star rating by BOTH revuers, an unheard of event, I believe. The film is called Samson and Delilah, and is probably doomed to a brief art house showing here and then a quick death. I hope not. I think I saw that it will be shown at Cannes. I haven't seen it yet, but for two 5 star ratings, it has to have something.

I'll be on the lookout. Just rewatched Mystery, Alaska, a movie I just love. Russell Crowe is his most fuzzy self, even when he's bristly and/or intense. Great supporting cast, including Burt Reynolds who belongs in the 60+ hunk group. [As does Morgan Freeman...I'd be the September to his December any day.]

Hey Terry, did you ever see RC in The Sum of Us? In 1994, he was dropdead gorgeous in a cute little Aussie movie. He played a gay son in a lovely light-hearted look at how families SHOULD work. His boyfriend was played by Jon Poulson who directed RC in his latest 'Tenderness' which I hear has great reviews.

Watched Frost/Nixon on demand. It's outstanding and I'm increasingly not understanding how Slumdog Millionaire won the Academy Award for best pic.

Hello movie people - haven't been here for a while mainly because I haven't been to the movies in ages. Well, not to see an adult movie and how many times can one get on here and report on the rubbish that passes for kids movies. Pink Panther 2 - 1 star for the scene with the Pope, but loses the More...

CynB, I was wondering if I'd missed the last of the Potter books. The last I read was the one where Dumbledore was "killed" in the end. Did another (last?) book come out? Since my kids are grown, I've lost track, but having read the series with them over the years, I'd like to finish.

Terry - my kids are wayyyyy grown-up too but I still love Harry Potter probably because my grandson (10) is right into HP and has been since he was small.
The final book 'HP and the Deathly Hallows' which ties everything up came out last year but I've heard that they are making it into 2 movies More...

Terry, the last book is No 7, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows". Book 6 is currently being filmed and is due out soon - just watched the movie trailer: getting excited! (Yeah, I know, I'm a big kid!)

Snap snap! Just realized how I missed No. 7. Kid No. 2 was on his way out of the country for a year abroad the moment it came out, and he bought a hard cover at the airport. I was too cheap to buy a second, and it was too expensive to mail home, and by the time he returned home I'd forgotten. Can More...

Did a bit of research and am happy to report Half-Prince comes out in theaters mid-July and I think Son No. 2 will be home visiting then. That would be too fun. The Hallows Part I due in November 2010.
How could I have forgotten the magic? Glad to be back. (I know... expounding on first The Reader and now Harry Potter. What can I say?)

Terry, a lot of people say that the Harry Potter books are "nothing special" -just typical kids fantasy. Yet their impact, even before the movies came out, has been phenomenal. I know of kids who'd never (willingly) read a book before, yet have raced through those books in record time - More...
