I can't imagine having to avoid all foods with preservatives. Here they sometimes put preservatives in fresh foods to give them longer shelf life.

Ooooh.... an unexpected TOPP.

The reason our jailer has been in office so long is that he's a "Good Ol' Boy". There are too many locals who will only vote for someone who is born and raised here. They don't care about qualifications.

Heidi, when we first moved to this small town it was kind of the same way. We had people on Town Council whose families had lived here for generations and many of them were blocking any kind of progress because it interfered with their own personal businesses (talk about conflict of interest). If you want to be truly terrified by the small minds and illiteracy here, google Mac Trumbo (the incompetent jailer), and click on the Hodgenville Forum.

Heidi, I aint never seen nothing like it. What is "stumpy" like?

He's a good ol' boy like Mac.

I have felt for a long time that there needs to be a minimum IQ requirement to vote. That, and the people here need to be replaced with "furriners". That's anybody who wasn't born here. I keep trying to encourage northerners to move here. It's too beautiful an area to allow it to be run by hillbillies.
13/Oct/10 6:11 AM
 |  |

Morning all!
Heidi, there's the compromise - put up with incompetence to live in a beautiful area. Sometimes it's worth it, and must be worth it to you. That doesn't mean I wouldn't complain about it though!

I don't know about vote, but a minimum IQ to run wouldn't be a bad thing. I More...

Has anybody here ever roasted chestnuts? I just got my first small crop from 2 trees I planted a couple of years ago. I heard that you roast them until they pop like popcorn, but I've never spoken to anybody who has done it.
13/Oct/10 7:47 AM

Suzy, were you talking about this "forum"? (teehee)

Heidi, I've never roasted chestnuts.

I think elected officials should have a high school diploma. I know I need one for any job I apply for, no matter how menial.

Hello to Suzy, Theresa, Heidi, TTT and anyone else I missed.
Nice fall day here. Planning to drive up to Park City & take my camera for when the leaves change...I think we're going there on Thursday. Will let you know if I go.

I looked up directions on how to roast them... it sounds easy enough... make an X cut in the shells, and roast at 425 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes. But i was wondering if anybody here has ever done it.

Evening all.

I am exhausted. I have read but not retained, so I will hopefully re-read tomorrow. Daughter has good days and bad days, today was a bad day. Grandies were whiney. It's early, but I am going to grab a snack and hit the hay. I have a headache that won't quit and my back is More...

I just heard on the radio, on the way back from the meeting, that the rescue of the miners starts in just under an hour. They'll start by lowering a medic down to help stabilize them, then it'll take about an hour per miner to get them up. That should take a while considering there are 33 miners.
I hope everything goes smoother than expected.
13/Oct/10 12:24 PM
 |  |

Heidi, that is good news to share. I also have everything crossed for the miners.
13/Oct/10 12:52 PM

They have now tested the rescue cage. The door was damaged, and they're busy repairing it. They hope to have the first miner out by midnight, my time.

The door is fixed, and the capsule, with medic, is descending!!!

Thanks to whomever sent the rain. round one has come through, a nice thunder shower, with more lighter rain on the way. We sure did need it. I wonder if my front grass has greened up already, or if it will need sunshine tomorrow plus the rain to do so.

The rescue capsule is heading back down again, with another rescue worker inside. It's going slowly, but steadily. At this rate, they'll all be up in less than 2 days. This sure beats the Christmas prognosis.
13/Oct/10 2:30 PM
 |  |

Thunder! S'alright, I unplugged.

I still can't believe how emotional it was to see the first miner move. I couldn't breathe until I saw him move, then I cried harder than his son. Idiot that I am.
13/Oct/10 2:35 PM

Heidi, did you notice the rescue worker's goggles fog up? Everyone is emotional over this!
